Help identifying part

Part completely rusted out on passenger side, right above trans fluid tank. 2013 2.7 L automatic. Will break off if i push with one finger... worth replacing?

Looks like a rusted out brake line hangar.

 

I dont think it connects to brake line(or ever did)

 

Due to a rusted out brake line due to the fluid dripping off the line and surrounding area.

 

Heat shield for the small electronic bit underneath?

 

That brake line needs to be replaced immediately...

Edit: is that a brake line or something else?
Either way, it needs to be replaced, anywhere you have a rust bubble on a steel line, you already have a pinhole through the line...

Those are transmission cooler lines. The rusted out piece appears to be a heat shield. And yes, it should be replaced. Toyota would not have spent $ on it if they did not feel it was needed to prevent part failure during warranty period. So, just think about how long it will last without the shield at this point.

 

I would also replace the trans cooler lines and fittings. Would be a crappy experience to pop a transmission cooler line and have it start spraying on the exhaust.

 

After re-looking at the pic, I was thinking maybe it was a cooler line... replacing it will definately be cheaper than replacing the transmission.

If the cooler lines look like that, I would be inspecting the brake lines closely... before I drove the truck again...

Brake lines have a rubber coating on them. Haven't seen them rust on 2nd gens. Though the brackets holding the lines are rust-prone.

And that isn't a brake line. Brake lines run along the driver's side frame rail (they get in the way when installing sliders).

 

Transmission cooler lines.

The rusted bit is the Park Neutral Safety Switch.

 

Is it possible the rusted part is a shield for the safety switch?

I also need to replace the transmission cooler lines (32907A in the above pic) because they are nearly rusted through.

Any advice on how to remove the rubber hoses from the rusted metal lines without having to cut the hose? They will not slip off.
