CP vs TRD Off Road Package

New to the forum but not new to Tacomas. I have a 2007 Access Cab TRD Off Road with a manual trans. Looking to step up to the 2011 Double cab. I want a longbed but I can't get it with a manual trans. I'll have to get the short bed if I stick with the manual.

Anyhow, I don't use the foglights, could care less about color keyed bumpers and fenders. The alloy rims don't last long on salted roads and backup cams don't mean much to me. Besides revalved shocks what would I be missing if I just got the CP?

bilstein shocks but you can get better shocks than the off road package for less than what toyota is charging you for them. i think the off road package comes with Bilstein 4600's or something and you can buy bilstein 5100's for 85 bucks a piece and theyre adjustable up to 2.5'' so if you dont care about the luxury stuff/locker get better shocks than the stock ones and youre set.

 

Haven't used the 110V plug yet but the seats and diff might make a difference. I'll have to see if those 2 options are worth 4k to me. For some reason I was thinking the locking diff came with the V6.

True, but my plan was to stick with the V6, manual trans and save $ with the convience package. Does the TRD Off Road have a different diff?

 

If by CP you mean just an SR5 truck, those come stock with steel rims & 245 Dunlops....though you can add the TRD off road alloys w/o the BFG LTs for whatever the going cost of the option is.
The stock tire on the alloys are Dunlops though not the TRD OR BFGs.

Also, you not get an overhead temp or compass plus the other things mentioned by Chris & ZR.

The color matched stuff only comes on the sport model fwiw.

You can always go Long bed non -trd & mod it your own way......

 

The TRD Sport and Off Road both have color keyed stuff. The Doublecab longbed, no matter what the trim level, isn't available in a manual. I wish that were different.

 

Is this new for 2011? It hasn't been that way since 2005.
oh wait..do you mean like the fender flares & front bumper cover? That is true..my non-trd has color matched flares & front bumper. Some were black. The Sport had the mirrors, door handles & rear bumper color matched.
Yeah bummer if you want a manual though in a LB configuration wish you the best in gettng the truck you want.

My 2007 TRD Off Road is color keyed with the exception of a chrome rear bumper. It's the same for 2011.

 

What I was looking at was not an SR5 package. The CP package is cheaper without some of the frills. The SR5 package includes the color keyed goodies and frills I don't need.

Don't forget about the TRAC, Auto-LSD, DAC, and A-TRAC. I'm not sure about the CP, but I know the TRD Sport doesn't come with most of these options.

These are very nice features. You can see my Sig for an explanation of them. Or you can search the forums for better explanations. David K has a great thread detailing how it all works and how these features are essentially game changers over the pre-'09s. Just a thought...

 

the SR5 or either TRD package will have the highlighted...the sport adds the color matched front grill, handles, mirrors, and rear bumper.

Ive never heard of a CP package. Ive never even seen it on the toyota website

 

Good thoughts. The Auto LSD is standard. HAC and DAC only come with 4x4 auto trans and a package. A-Track only comes with 4x4 and a package. If your Sport doesn't have them, I assume they all, except Auto LSD, come with the auto trans 4x4 with the Off-Road package.

With the 4x4 and CP I'll be missing the A-Track. It's nice to have in the ice but I don't know if I'll miss something I never had in my 2007 manual trans.

 

CP = Convenience Package. It's on Toyota's website. I cut and pasted it right off of it. It's a step up from base and down from the SR5.

If it's a debate at all, get the SR5 so you will have no regrets later. It will look better with color match front bumper and fenders, your will have extra features you will enjoy, and its only $900 more on a ~28k vehicle. The truck will also have better resale value, and be much easier to resell. In the end it's your money, but I say you should spoil yourself.

 

I guess I was confused since most call/want color matched with the TRD Sport since it adds the the grill surround, side mirror covers, door handles and rear bumper plus that scoop
I have a non-TRD model with the front bumper and fender flares matching my truck as part of the SR5 package. The black accents do look good on some models.

What color are you looking at?

 

I like the pyrite mica. It looks good with the black IMHO. I also don't think the mica's are available with most of the packages. The new back-up camera adds alot to the SR5 option. It's like $2k now, not $900. I'm not a big fan of the non-SR5 interior. The fabric looks weak and easy to stain.

I saw the dealer had lift options for the Tundra. Does anyone know if they are doing the same with the Tacoma?

 

The Pyrite Mica is available with the TRD Off Road. Saw one at the dealer yesterday.
If it was 4x4, I might have pulled the trigger instead of waiting for the MGM.
