    2003-2009 for the GX470 (4.7L V8)
    2010-current for GX460 (4.6L V8)

The GX470 is basically just a fancy T4R with more headroom and options.

As long as you plan on doing the HG as routine maintenance they are fun little trucks. Perfect vehicles for those who enjoy wrenching on their own stuff.

I dislike the 3VZ-E so much, because it makes less power than a 3RZ and is almost exclusively mated to that horrible power stealing drive train. The full hydro a340 and hydro tcase (known to skim up to 55hp) are awful. But I also know they're reliable minus the 3VZ HG probs. I'd just make a new passenger side header myself and call it good. That'll keep it from blowing. Hell, there's no emissions anymore. I could use the stock headers and pipe one out each fender and call it good and it would be fine

I forget who makes em, but 5vz swap kits are available for that generation.

There's some sort of fluid coupler for the engagement and input, like an early push button style, except you just effortlessly slide a handle.

It's really only a problem near the #6 cyl. Toyota never actually fixed it, they just gave you a new HG that was harder to blow (but still eventually blew again).

Out of curiosity, would these even be able to adapt to a 4wd Taco tranny if mounted longitudinally? Looks like they all mated to the ‘U’ series trannies.

I’d rather buy an adaptor and motor mounts pre fabbed. But there aren’t any. Motors seem cheap and available with more power than the 5vz. They came in AWD SUVs but no hi/low shifter.

Couldn’t find block weights, but the 3mz is aluminum vs the 5vz is iron.

I had one of those and it sucked. To be fair the engine wasn't healthy but it could not break 70 on the highway unless you drafted a semi and stayed there

It's not that bad. Some guys have even managed to pull the tube without pulling the diff. Also, to avoid annoying CV breaks in the future save up the cash for RCV's. I haven't had to touch a CV in over a year and there's a lot of hard wheeling miles that happened in that year.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
They should. Most Toyota transmissions will bolt up to other toyotas with minimal issue. Hell the 5vz bolts onto mr2 transmissions for the most part

I don't know about dropping that much money into the IFS.

I'm already wanting a diamond for the front :homer:

My goal for this rig was to keep it IFS. So not having to change a CV every trip was worth it for me. If your goals a SAS then rip that 7.5 diff out and start cutting. lol
