It was most likely caused by that amplifier. Most of the time that can be solved by using the high level speaker input on the amplifier, not always though.
Stay with a well known major brand stereo amplifier and I'm sure you'll be happier next time.

If the problem occurs again pay attention to what else, if anything, doesn't work on the truck and that will be useful in diagnosis of the problem. It's interesting moving the shifter allowed it to start up.

Ok. You shouldn't have noise out of an Alpine amp with no volume. How does the amp receive its signal? (1. The amp has a high level input using speaker wires for input. 2. There is a high to low level converter - if yes, which brand and model and where is the converter specifically located? Behind the stereo or at the amp? How much did you pay for the RCA cables? (If there are RCA cables.)

I had it installed so im not sure. didn't always have the noise but started this fall. hoping to bring it somewhere else after Christmas and have them do a head unit and whatever else it needs.

Ok, that is very useful info. With an Alpine amp and most any major name brand head unit the noise should go away. If it doesn't, you might want to have them look for a damaged RCA wire, somewhere where it wore down from an abrasion.

Alpine head units are the best, IMO.

When I first had it installed I wanted a 10” sub and they said no problem. When I picked it up they said they tried a few times but a 10” won’t fit. So they put an 8” in. Sounded ok but wasn’t to happy with it. A year later I had rattling coming from both front doors so I took the door panels off and the speakers were falling off the adapters they had made. Brought it to a different place and had them put on adapters and a 10” sub box I bought from Mr.Marv sounded better but two years later I have that noise and it sounds muffled almost like to much bass with the bass turned all the way down on the head unit and the bass knob on the sub turned all the way down.

Today I drove from Palm Springs back to San Diego through the mountain pass. Stopped at the first sight of snow but found much more snow the further up I got and had some fun going off the beaten path. Unfortunately, I came to the realization that I need new tires. My KO2's just don't have enough thread left.

Did the first DIY service since the extended service warranty ran out. Turns out the dealership service sucks - big surprise, I know. Overtorqued lug nuts, no sign of lubrication of the u-joints in the recent past, they did a four-tire rotation when they listed (and told me they'd performed) a five-tire rotation - I could go on. This is why I prefer to work on my own vehicles, I just got complacent and a little intimidated with this new vehicle (new as in this decade).

Turns out the intimidation wasn't warranted. Not as easy to move around and reach things as in the '72 K10, but it's still a mechanical thing. Until, I guess, some error code or another gets thrown...

That sounds like a problem with electronics. I would first figure out how the amp is receiving its input signal (a built inside the amp high to low converter or external high to low converter?).

With 6x9's in each door a single 8" is a poor choice for the designer of the system. It's a big cab too. I don't think I'd be happy with a single 10" but it would be a lot closer than a single 8".

You've done a lot of work on it lately. That's great. How much of a change to the exhaust does it take to make the CEL light up? I'm wanting to change the muffler on it.

Hey @DG92071 and @Toysareus thanks for ideas, I went to autozone and had a start and charge determined the battery was done. Replaced it and all seems to be good now, will see how tomorrow’s morning commute goes already have about 6 inches of snow on the ground here!
