I have always been a fan of Yaesu radios but the Icom sure is a nice package. Got to ask yourself whats more important and useful, IMHO cross ban is way more useful than a digital mode.
If I had the coin I would grab the Icom.

Make sure your antenna is folded before you pull into your garage

Make sure your mic in your cupholder doesn't activate and make you DJ Hot Mike

Tough call, the GPS and APRS feature is nice in the Yaesu but I don't see where it has simultaneous receive capability. That is one feature I really like as well.

The way crossband repeat was explained to me is (correct me if I'm wrong) I can theoretically set it up to be able to call the truck with a handheld and it can rebroadcast from the truck with more power.

The way we hike and hunt etc. That makes crossband repeat a feature that is most important for me.

The GPS etc would be nice. But I have a tablet and my phone(s) set up with GAIA gps. If all those fail... the satellites have been shot down by the Russians and it wont work on my HAM either lol.

you are correct, I hunt and camp alot so for the same reason here crossband makes it the deal breaker for me. Also having dual receive helps where I am at with the Florida SARnet system. I honestly don't really care much for the digital modes they were ok I guess but I use P90 digital at work and we have so many problems its turned me off of digital and DMR. I have so many GPS systems I wouldn't miss it and APRS is cool but I have a Bionics Tinytrak 4 for it.
For me that Icom would be ideal, someone please talk Santa into dropping one off at my house!

I think what you are referring to with simultaneous recieve (again, correct me if I'm wrong)

Is... a buddy of mine has his mobile set up where if he's in a group, he can be invovled in the group conversation, but also have another side conversation going on with a few people.

I would like to have that capability... I can see how that would be useful.

Unless something has changed and it could have my mobiles are old, simultaneous receive capability in my old dual band means I can monitor VHF and UHF at the same time without having to switch bands, in other words I can leave my favorite VHF channel and my favorite UHF channel up and hear them both

Tm-v71a because it has a tnc data port. Paired with a mobilelinkd device you now have the ability to text much easier, have a real-time map with telemetry, and you can constantly monitor while running APRS.

Also, I use my phone, not my tablet while driving

Very nice setup, I am running and old Alinco DR-605 in my Jeep and will be installing a Yaesu FT-1500 in my Tacoma as soon as I get an antenna but plan to add a dual band later on
