First time on the this site!
Recently purchased a small townhouse north of Durango, CO and looking for off-road trails with day hike/camp access to high mountain fishing lakes between Durango, Silverton, Ouray. I know there are trails off the Alpine loop, does anyone know which trails/passes provide the best off-road and fishing opportunities?

Rigging my 2007 Tacoma for some high mountain adventure.

The Animas in town (Durango). This year was tough because of all the snow melt. I am not great at fly fishing, have only done it twice. But the Animas is the easily accessible river in town that runs on into New Mexico. It's not really a stream, it's a river. I haven't discovered the hidden gems yet but sure am wanting to.

Only done it twice? Yep, you're a fly fisherman.

I'll have to look up that stream on the map.

    Again, welcome.

Really looking forward to getting to know the area. My oldest goes to college in Durango, my youngest one will in a couple of years so I plan on spending a lot of time there and exploring with my sons doing "guy stuff". Mom is welcome as well, she just isn't as adventurous, :)

    Welcome to TW. :worthless:
I was planning a trip to that area to do some fishing in the Animas River. I'd try that first. It's a first class Fishery.

Just past purgatory there are a couple trails that lead to lakes. I have done the Imogene pass and the Alpine loop. But there is also black bear pass which is super popular. Tons of stuff to see and check out around there. Also Telluride is a popular spot for trails. i think there are 3 or 4 trails heads there... The least fished lakes/ponds are going to be the best fishing.
