I recently bought a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 with 20inch rims...they came with them not my first choice...don't judge. I'm keeping them and getting different tires cause I have street tires on them and its a nightmare driving in anything but perfect weather. But I'm wondering what size spacers should I go with? Friend says 1/4 spacers but I don't think that'll be good enough when i get bigger rubber on them. 275/55R20 is what I have now and its pretty F-ing close. As well whats a good tire size without getting a lift? She sits just high enough for my taste.

If you're buying new tires now is the perfect time to boot those 20s. Not sure how much help you'll get, as there's probably only a handful of people running 20s on the forum.

So are your traction problems due to worn out tires? Or are you speaking of snow? Because 'street tires' should be just fine normally.

And you are speaking of wheel spacers, not suspension spacers, correct?

Spacer width will be based on the current wheel specs and how much you want to alter your steering geometry.

A set of take offs from a 3rd gen, including tires, would fit nice and be cheaper than tires for those wheels. Let someone else become their proud owner.

With a set like that being cheaper than tires for your wheels, you could literally throw the wheels away and be money ahead.

    Hey OP. Welcome to TW.

are you wanting a spacer lift?
Or wheels spacer to have a greater offset?

The traction issue is yes due to snow and slick roads. I live in Colorado. These are the tires.

Getting rid of the rims is what I'm Probally gonna end up having to do, I hate Chrome to begin with and Idk what the guy before me was thinking with putting those on her.

Care to share the brand/model of that tire?

That tread pattern looks like a summer performance tire, not even a basic 3 season.

That's a Nitto. Not a bad tire. They claim it to be an all season truck/SUV tire. But..................

All season doesn't really exist. There are 3 season tires and winter tires. Yes, folks use all season in winter conditions, but they'll never work like dedicated winter tires.

And, that tire is really more for a 'sport truck'. Which seems to conflict with a lifted 4wd. Just IMHO.

    Good luck with your choices!

PS, while you are cleaning things up, consider ditching that bull bar and losing the black out covers on the headlights. This thread might be of interest to you to actually gain some practical lighting.

Oh in my opinion these are trash tires, maybe on a Xrunner in Cali they would be great but no, they grip as much as buttered toast would on a skillet.

Welcome to the forums! Are you close to Denver at all? I think there is a guy in our local trading post selling his 3rd Gen Off-road take offs, stock wheels/tires

Depending where you live you might make a decent chunk of change off the 20" rims. There are a surprising amount of people that still love chrome rims, especially dubs. The 6 lug pattern will fit Chevy trucks/suv's too.

In regards to spacers. They are pretty safe when used with stock size wheels. 20" heavy wheels and spacers would not be a good combo IMO.

New headlights will be here in 2 day. Thanks for the info for more light. Driving with sunglasses over my headlights is BS.
