So I finished this today in my 3rd Gen. Took my daughter back to VA Tech, after the Thanksgiving week break. Left early Sat AM, about a 750 mile trip from our house. Great weather, perfect day for a drive and I love the route thru NY to VA, Rt 84 to Rt 81. I've done the trip twice before in a full size Yukon, first time in the Tacoma. My truck is stock, engine, tires, etc with just a few cosmetic mods so far. It was perfect time with my oldest, lots of laughs and conversation along the way between the 2 of us. I had reservations to stay the night in Blacksburg, VA and return today, the same route. What threw me a curve ball was the storm forecast, with the Boston news reporting the path to be basically my entire route home - at the same time! So I took her and her roommate out to dinner and then decided maybe it would be in my best interest to get a jump on the return trip. A couple of gas, coffee and bathroom stops and a tad over 11 hrs later, I arrived back here this morning. I'm not sure who was more tired me or the truck. It's my daily driver, basically I'm a flatlander living about a mile from the ocean and drive it maybe 1K a month, mostly locally. It was an eye opening experience to say the least, even while manually downshifting from overdrive, to see how much the truck struggled with the hills in NY, PA and VA. I just could not imagine how you guys out west with "real hills", especially if you have any type of armor, steel bumpers, winch and/or larger tires, are able to drive your truck regularly thru the elevation changes. I know I could go with a tune, but I truly think I needed 2 more cylinders to just be able to stay with the flow of traffic. I really felt like I was abusing the truck near the end, even on a few smaller hills coming out of CT and the MA. It just seemed so under powered and I was trying to drive it easy. About 1500 miles total and got around 21-22 mpg. Still love it for everything else, but the next trip will be with the Yukon. Thanks Bill in MA

Sounds like an awesome trip with the kid! But I hear ya on the hill struggle! Like you said it sometimes feels like abuse on the truck trying to stay at the speed limit on some hills. Glad to hear you beat the storm and made it home safely!

As much as $ will allow
Trips with kids can be fun. Just finished my 8 hour drive from NC. It was the maiden voyage in the TRD Pro vs the usual ES350.

Totally different beasts but I love Tacos and I enjoyed the trip. The kids, a little less LOL

The low drone from the TRD exhaust got on her nerves a tad. Cest la vie.

Love my Taco too! I’ve adapted to the power limits and wouldn’t trade it for anything else! Lot of time and mods invested, and worth every penny and busted knuckle!

Looks great. It looks like you ran the wiring down the windshield for the light bar. What wiring harness did you use and how did you get it to look so clean? I have a roof rack ordered and would like to do the same thing. I can't quite tell what you used where the wiring goes from the rack to start down the top of the windshield but it appears it changes shape and thins out for a nice tight fit down the windshield. Any info or tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I made my own harness, i have a switch pros, so on one end i have the weatherpack with 2 x 12awg red wires and 1 x 12awg black wire into the connector to attach to the BD. The other end are just ring terminals attached to the switch pros. I managed to stuff 3 x 12awg wires down that crack between the trim and the pillar. I used a plastic trim removal tool and just keep stuffing them in there. On the prinsu i wrapped the wires in loom and zip tied them under the prinsu crossbar. I was at home depot looking for some wire wrap and saw they sell SKINNY 12awg, i dont know if that has any negative effects but that would have made it much easier to stuff down the gap. let me know if you have any other questions.

The brackets you made - they are attached only at the rail above and don't attach to the truck bed or anything at the bottom, correct? Any concerns about the bracket vibrating side to side and torquing the rail?

    Thanks.

Replaced the front differential fluid, installed the air line on the front locker, thus completing the ARB locker install. Tested it out :mudding::thumbsup:

    #fullylocked

BTW, the front diff temp sensor needed to be removed in order to fit the banjo bolt, so plan on a diff flush if yer going to do it. Fluid will puke out the temp sensor hole otherwise. That, and the plug for the air line that was machined into the housing by ECGS was only finger tight. My diff shop didn't crank it down. It's an air line port, so only dirt/water could have entered the ARB locker air line assembly had the plug worked it's way out... :notsure:
