A few times a marked queen can lose her marking by the nurse bees cleaning it off. I’ve worked at a few apiaries where a few of the hives had queens with glued numbers on the back so they cannot take off the marking.

I will agree, but I also believe mites are a symptom to inferior bees. It is just what is next in line to hurt them. It was Tracheal mites, i love you has been seeing paralysis virus also. Local bees I feel is the key but will take some time to hone them for your location.

That’s cool. It’s the same here in Hawaii where some of the islands are varroa free.

I agree to a certain extent that inferior bees are a problem, however it’s the natural bee viruses (is Deformed Wing Virus) that the mite has helped spread I feel is a major factor for bee loss.
In Hawaii when the mite first came, our colonies could handle very high levels of varroa. However over time (less than 5 years!) the amount mites a colony could handle went down immensely. This was due to the increase of viral spread as well as a selection for deadly viral strains. My biggest fear is that we may start seeing viral strains that can wipeout colonies at lower levels.

I think the answer will be more breaks in brood, and less antibiotic but a different type of management witch I am far from the person to design it. But in my 4th year I am always learning and trying things. Will be starting soon with state of Florida master beekeepers course at UF. It is seems like a great program .

Did this a couple weeks ago, finally got around to posting it up now. Built an insulated lid for the hive. Then used wind barrier stuff meant to go under house siding to wrap them up. Note I left a little vent at the top still, proper ventilation is key. Got the idea from 'Scott Hendriks' vids on YouTube. Seemed like a quality idea so I'm giving it a try

Scott is a solid keeper. I watch the hell out of his videos but being in Florida we have like 3-4 days of cold .
