Changed the tacos oil at 1000 miles. I know, I know. Waste of money, time, blah blah blah. Next will be at 5000. Good amount of metal in the filter which I understand is normal. Now she’s running PP full syn. Mucho better.

The irony is these same people that say waste of money would likely scoff at the idea of buying a truck with 10k oil changes in the used market

Perhaps. But oil is cheap and I was bored. Glad I surpassed 1000k so I can finally use cruise control. :burnrubber:

Went with PP 0w20. I know I would get flamed for doing a 1k oil change. Putting a different oil weight from recommendation would probably get me banned.

also, a lot of 3rd gen folks state that the oil filter cap is superglued on when they try and do the first oil change, did you experience something similar or did it come off okay? Any plans to switch from the plastic cap to metal one?

Those people have no business crawling under their truck to do an oil change or anything else for that matter.

I had no problems getting the stock cap off, but I don't skip arm day and have the proper tools

Less than 5% of vehicle owners now change their own oil.
Knock yourselves out and I wouldn't think twice buying a vehicle that had proper maintenance from the owner's manual.

However, after reading posts here for several years I would NOT buy a vehicle that has been maintained by the owner.

I only buy vehicles formerly owned by TW’s resident oil experts.

You could have added more value with a wash and wax.

Makes sense. 1000 miles is the break-in period. I did mine at that mileage, in the driveway in early Feb in 20F weather...

I'm hard on my engine and redline it often in rush-hour traffic on the highway. Per the owner's manual, I use 0W30.
