My first second gen, a couple questions

Hey all I Bought a 2009 Tacoma double cab trd sport with a cap a couple months ago, I just need racks for it and not looking to spend over 400$ for the Yakima set up, has anyone ever used these?

Second question my truck unfortunately has the transmission shudder every now and then, I’m gonna drain it and add shudder fix and the lubeguard protectant, I read somewhere on here that worked for a couple people, but has anyone had to have there transmission replaced? Or just dealt with the shudder?

Third question, the other day I noticed vibration coming from the rear, it happens between 30-40mph, the shop I’ve been going to for 10+ years said it was coming from the rear differential, So they drained it and added the new fluid plus some friction fluid( I forget what it’s called) it’s seemed to of helped a bit but it’s still there, anyone know what that could be? My truck is totally stock. I’ve had a 2003 and 2004 Tacoma and loved those just needed something a little bigger but now I have a couple of weird issues I’m not likin, any pointers would be awesome!

 

I don’t know if this helps. I have experienced no shudder in my Tacoma tranny but I did have shudder in my FJ Cruiser. I was told its the same tranny. I also don't know if it’s what you are experiencing because you just state shudder but not when. Mine shuddered as it shifted between gears. Toyota ended up replacing the entire tranny under warranty (6k for a tranny!) and back then I read it was a bit common issue.

 

It normally happens between 2nd and 3rd, was that part of a recall? I looked up to see if there were any on my truck and there isn’t

Shudder- probably not the trans at all. I wouldn’t add anything to it (asking for trouble)

Take a good look at your 2-piece rear driveshaft and carrier bearing and/or soft rear leaf springs.

There are definitely guys here who will chime in with more experience on this issue than I have, but I’m just trying to get you to put the brakes on the tranny additive.

Mine shuddered, mostly from a stop. New leaf packs when I lifted it helped and dialing in the pinion angle/dropping my carrier bearing got (mostly) rid
of it.

The real issue is the 2-pc driveshaft. It’s a cost saving measure but far from ideal and tough to get perfect.

dont add stuff!! lucas and others are just for trans that are about to go out. just change fluid, seen a friend mess his car up cause of that wanting to take care of his car. better to see first if there is trouble after the fluid drain and fill. one thing at a time to be safe

 

Volumes have been written about it. Guys have had 1-pc driveshafts made. I’m no genie but I’ll be very surprised if
your trans itself has an issue.

Failing/failed carrier bearing or rear trans mount are my guesses as neither make
any obvious noises (like a failing/failed u-joint would) and assuming there’s no noises I’ll rule out the driveshaft for now. But if you’re still on the super soft factory leaf springs that’s another one I’d look at. Someone at some point had a GoPro mounted under their truck... it showed the driveshaft bouncing and the pinion swinging up and down on acceleration- wasn’t “caused” by the soft spring but definitely didn’t do anything to help the situation.
