You could go 30,000 miles on these trucks between oil changes and the engine wouldn’t bat an eye...

Anyone saying it’s a waste is crazy. Any automotive field or service tech will agree it should be changed. Who wants metal particles in there oil for the first 3-5k let alone 10k?

I would do it again. Yea. The filter kept the larger pieces contained. But the oil had quite a bit of tiny pieces. To each their own.

First change at 500 miles cut open the filter to look just for fun .... Very few glitter spots in the folds looked normal for a factory fill filter

Don't plan on letting the dealership touch it for any "FREE"oil changes

Will change it once a year or every 12k miles with get this..... Orielly 5w30 house brand full synthetic and a wix XP filter

Oil, shmoil, you don’t need oil, just drive her like ya stole her.

Pretend it’s not yours, keep the break in oil that’s contaminated with small burns that ware off in the first bit of running a new engine. Waste of money, just throwing it away.

    priceless

I will also not use their free changes. My last truck's filter housing was on so tight from their service dept I needed a breaker bar to get it off. That... and they stripped two of the bolts on the skid plate.

I only buy used trucks with full Blackstone oil analysis data for every oil change and even then I question it! /s

Bet you'll find some good size pieces if there was a larger magnetic oil plug. So much for those who say the filter get it. Oh wait, that might panic some people unnecessarily and we already have a lot of that going on

You're way too generous, try 130k miles

Nice work, I replaced mine at 1200 -+ miles, then again @5k miles and every 5k miles thereafter as per owners manual.
You’ll find lots of folk here think the 10k miles oil change applies to them and everyone else should follow their lead because some lab test told them its good (cough, cough!) without looking at the sludge accumulation rate inside the engine.
I’m also pretty certain some of these folk don’t plan on keeping their truck more than a couple years, so good for them.
Also some others have the gasoline engine confused with a diesel, some hate oil companies, others want to blame oil changes for climate change and then there are those that just don’t take good care of their belongings and want others to do as they do, because as they say, misery loves company hehe!.

I have been told by engineers (not engine builders) that the metal shavings are of no real concern as they are covered in oil and will simply settle to the bottom harmlessly. And I believe them, there’s ample data to back up those claims, so no worries there.

Still, when I look at the benefits of clean oil, I see less friction, less metal shavings, less chance of harmful engine sludge accumulation, better fuel mileage, more power from less friction, longer trouble free engine longevity.

There will never be an end to the good oil change thread

I totally agree that 5k oil changes give peace of mind to that issue only thing that frequent oil changes ever hurt was a worn out drain plug/oil pan thread

That is the interval I on plan on. Which will be about once a year as its a low mileage vehicle.

Just to rub almost 100% of TW the wrong way, I changed mine at 1,000 miles but left the filter.
Felt a bit lackadaisical that morning. And hey, the dealer probably wouldn't have changed it either... LOL

I actually ran a $50 magnetic Gold Plug drain plug for a couple of years on my old truck. Never saw much accumulation on the magnet. It made reinstalling the plug a pain as the strong magnet would always stick to the pan surface outside the hole.
