Same here. If the work part would go away we'd have it made! (Except for the money thing, that could be a problem)

Is it horrible that @Twizted and I can't wait to move and be away from the holiday obligations? I come from a divorced family and his is small and used to do every birthday/holiday together. It was too much. I put a stop to Christmas gifts a few years ago so now unless it's alcohol or edible then we don't want it.

I love seeing my family when I want to and not because a holiday makes me obligated to run around to 4 houses or juggle our schedule. No, thank you.

So. Starting in October, this is the list of birthdays and holidays that we travel for.

    October: Halloween (2)
    Little cousins birthdays (3)
    November: Birthday (uncle)
    Thanksgiving (4)
December: My Bday, kid's Bday. (2)
    Christmas (7)
    January: Sister's birthday
    February: Other sister's birthday
    March: Stepdad's bday
    April: Mom's bday, (passed)
    May: Sister's boyfriend's bday/ niece's birthday (2)
    June: Wife's sister's bday / cousins bdays (3)
July: We stay home this month, typically.
    August: Wife's / brother in law's birthday. (2)
    September: Little cousins birthdays (2)

The coinciding numbers note the different locations we travel to. Add in the fact that this shit is going on when I'm in school, working and trying to keep a family going financially....and it wears me out. I love our house at Christmas time. It is very cozy and really puts me in a much better mood.

    All this other shit...ruins it.

Give me a fucking cabin away from everyone. Send me a bottle every year for my birthday. Leave me alone.

Damn that gives me anxiety just thinking about it. I also made my husbands family combine birthdays so we weren't always celebrating every birthday between the holidays, it's too much! My family doesn't regularly celebrate birthdays so they're easy to skip or push off for times that work best for everyone.

We used to celebrate Christmas Eve at my in laws because they wanted to give gifts privately, but then we would just see them the next day to exchange gifts with everyone. We put a squash to that a few year's back and now they can come over an hour before everyone else. Oh, and @Twizted aunt and uncle are notoriously late. They once brought a deep fryer over to make appetizers because they were already running an hour late. It was the most awkward arrival to have everyone hanging around and them to walk in and ask where its okay to set up their fryer. Like really??

    Stock. SR5 Package #2.

    Exactly.

    JUST TOO MUCH

Mrs Gritto is slowly coming around to my point of view.
She used to be a real fanatic about doing everything.
Not so much now...she's no spring chicken any more.

No more ginormous tree (got her a medium size artificial).
No more invites to all and sundry to... hey, come on over to Chez Gritto.

She still does the Christmas cookie thing for the Christmas Bazaar at St Rita's. She's up there right now.
You should hear her in the kitchen...banging pots and muttering "fuck fuck fuck". (I make myself scarce).
And still loads up her Highlander on Christmas eve with presents for her family in Johnstown.

    Not for me.
On Christmas eve the cats and I watch the Nutcracker ballet in my home theater. (Mariinsky Theater Production, got it in HD.)
On Christmas I have a big fire in the hearth and play Handel's Messiah. Not the excerpts...the whole long thing.
Just me and the kitty cats.

Then late Christmas day Mrs Gritto returns and we do it all over again.
The day after Christmas she makes a big Christmas ham dinner.
    That's how I like it.

Don't get me wrong, I love cooking a huge meal and having a house full of people. I just don't like doing it because we all feel obligated to keep with the status quo with our families. I'd like to do it just because its nice to have a large meal with company and everyone having a good time.
