Welp. Your complete lack of evidence has convinced me, I'm switching to 5k oil changes. Gonna go change my headlights just for the heck of it too

 

You could use an oil vac and remove it from the dipstick tube.

It takes longer and might leave a bit of oil behind, but saves you from needing to remove the plug or using an oil drain pan and helps to keep you from splashing or spilling oil.

 

If you have trouble removing your oil cap, it's a very good indicator that you go no further and take your Tacoma to a shop.
And why would you go through the trouble of finding a metal cap?

 

I do realize the V6 has a different oil filter than the 4 cyl

The oil change kids over tighten both on the regular so imagine your drain plug threads

I also realize it's split if a owner does their own oil changes or has a shop do it .... For some it's no big deal but as long as my old ass can I will do it myself so I know exactly who to blame

The toe scuffs on the door panel each time a dealer lot monkey jumps in to pull it in the service bay is enough to stop me in my tracks right there

I've built a few engines. Not the one in my taco mind you, but I have built engines.... Some of them cost well over $5,000,000 to overhaul. The oil change on those can be $20,000. We test the oil, and they don't require changing even after several years.

While I didn't do the first couple of oil changes in my Truck, I have starting with the 30K. I've also tested the oil since 30K and so far no issues (I'm at 80K now).

As long as the amount of particles don't overpower the filter, I don't see there being much of a problem waiting 10K for your first oil change. You could test the oil to know that though.

 

I think he was referring to the canister itself, not the oil cap. Some guys feel the need to switch to the aluminum canister over the factory plastic one but as long as you don't overtorque it will be fine.

 

I know right? How hard can it be to understand that you need to change your oil to keep the warranty in force?
And they give you a range of 5k-10k miles so if you drive like miss Daisy, you might be good with the max of 10k.
But I still don’t get these people that get upset if you don’t to push the max and take care of your hard earn purchase.

But don’t get me wrong, I do get that a lot of people lease or change vehicles constantly because they don’t take care of it and they have issues. Or they don’t want to spend the money to take care for someone else’s benefit even if its an family member. I get it.

Scientific evidence you want? How about what the owners maintenance manual says? Change the oil, or your warranty maybe denied. It be a different story if it didn’t mention it.

But there’s also this past history lesson learned the hard way for people that don’t take care of their hard earned property:

And you don’t have to replace your head light dude, the manual doesn’t require it. But if the lens gets yellowish and the lighting is affected your safety is at risk for night driving. And if you wish to upgrade to HID or LED and even if you just want to do it, I won’t think you’re crazy.

Odd maybe, crazy no.

Maybe a bit of an exaggeration but let’s see your 10k factory filter/oil lab results and I’ll show you mine

 

I completely agree. With good lab results I don’t see a problem with 10k. However you are not seeing sludge buildup.. @ a 20k oil change I wouldn’t be doing it that often either. I’m also assuming they aren’t turning to many RPMS or in extreme conditions?

 

Fuckin oil change nerds.. I don't get the trend around here. Anywho... Y'all best be dropping off that nice clean oil to heat my shop over the winter.
