And? I've only had a bottle once, a few years ago, and it was sweeeeeeeeet and syrupy.

 

It’s definitely on the sweet side. Very marketable BBA for the masses.

 

3 Floyd’s Alpha Klaus Christmas Porter. I don’t even know where to begin with this train wreck of a beer. The aroma is roastiness and pine. The flavor is pine, pine, a whole lot of astringency, and a little more pine. The finish is drier than Guinness. This is more like a too-roasty black IPA. The bitterness of the roasted malt does not play well with the piney hops. I’m assuming that instead of a typical spiced beer, they were going for the Christmas tree effect. This is one of the worst commercial craft beers I’ve had.

Sounds like they just made shit up. I, personally, prefer lighter beers with pizza, but I'll drink whatever is close by.

 

I’m not denying the science behind good and beer pairings, but I’ll usually stick to something on the lighter side with pizza.

Having said that, I’m not even a huge fan of beer and food. I’d rather drink beer before and after, and just enjoy some water while eating. I love beer and I love food but I enjoy them best separately.

 

Went back to the bar, because ya know, and we got Goose BCBS and Founders CBS. BCBS immediately was entirely too sweet.

Good share last night with a few friends while watching some MNF.

 

Making up for last night’s abysmal selection. I picked up a 4 pack of Big Timber Porter while in WV. An excellent example of the style. Slightly roasty with a smooth finish and a deep amber hue when held up to the light. Even better is that the recipe is up on American Homebrewer’s Association website. I’ll be brewing a batch of this for sure.

 

Oh man. I lived in WV for 5 years and this is really making me miss it more. Big Timber is doing great things.

 

I was born and raised in West By God. Unfortunately, I didn’t appreciate the efforts of their craft breweries before I moved away a few years ago. What I’ve had from Big Timber has been quite good. I’ve also got a 6er of Devil Anse IPA from Greenbrier Valley chilling in the fridge.
