ok, sitting back and thinking for a moment I will add a blocker plate to keep and tools/bits from jamming the lock/handle assembly from rotating too.
My 98 is off getting painted atm and I will start this project later in december.

Yeah I got a plate blocking off the whole lock area.
Unfortunately it took some space but it's isolated.

Got a few compliments from moms while I was loading up the drawers in grocery parking lots during my trip (seriously).

Shell still leaks, I blasted it with sealant where I know it leaks, which slowed them down enough for this trip. I really need to yank it off and fix the seals at the corners.
I also need to finish the sides of the platform, which was a little comfortable for my feet hanging down while I was sleeping.

Other than that, these are a TOTAL game changer. I mean it made camping/traveling so enjoyable and easy. Had all my fishing stuff there and all my cooking stuff, super nice.
Excuse the mess on top of the drawers, I slept in there a couple nights and didn't wanna repack the stuff.

PS: I'm not a photographer, just took random pics on my trip and these include drawers.

Your drawer set up looks great! Really nice job.

I had a similar one but I turned it into a campfire.

Make sure it's secured to the bed of the truck well. If it becomes free and you drive like an A-hole down whooped out Baja race course roads it'll get broken to shit!

    Very nice job though!

@OP Great drawer build in your truck bed. I'm surprised that you didn't install a water reservoir tank though. A suggestion concerning your leaking truck shell: You'll have to reinstall the rubber gasket material and adhesive to the top bed rails, if that's where the water leaks came from. You may also want to check if the window seals inside the window frames is keeping out the water.

For years, I've had the window seals leak inside the window frame at the front of the shell and couldn't figure out where the water kept leaking in. The foam inside the window frame got old, started to bulge outwards, popping out from under the shell's window frame. I had to go to the store where I bought my shell from and them install new foam inside all 3 of the sliding window frames and new rubber gasket/ & adhesive when the shell was reinstalled on the bed rails.

    LOL!!
Funny cus I was thinking the same thing. "When I'm done with this, will I have a bonfire with it?".

Yeah, I need to find a good way to mount it to the bed. Want to reuse the D rings. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable on a trail with it like this.
I didn't do much offroading this trip. I did baja style a pretty aggressive dip on a fire road. Surprised it didn't implode haha.

    Hey Hammer!
Thanks for the compliment. As previously stated, I'm happy with the current outcome. I live in an HOA and have very little tools, so I'm glad it turned out OK. Lot of compromises though.
I'm trying to sneak my waterport in on the side of the platform where you see there is room between the box and bed side. No reservoir though.

Thanks for the leak help. I will post pictures later.
It leaks on all four corners. I think I might know why. Will add pics later tonight.

    I’ve built 3 platforms.
    stage 1: platform
    Stage 2: campfire

Except the last one I made out of aluminum tube with a 3/8 plywood top. By far the lightest and strongest. That one’s stage 2 is shelf in the garage. The ply top still got burned though.

Although I guess my latest build is still a platform.

Just saw your post. Nice job! Wish you had detailed it more.
Definitely something I'd do if I had the driveway/garage space. One day when I move out.

I remember seeing your truck now at Timmy's meet up in Campbell.

I’ll add some more posts about how I built it. I have a lot of thoughts on what I’d do different if I were to do it again too. I also have a bunch of time lapse videos I can put together.
I’m taking a short break now that the thing is functional. I’m a little burned out on it. I built it in 5 months with a month off after surgery in the middle. The last month was work 9-10 hrs at my job, come home and build the camper for 3-5 hours and work on it 10-12 hours Saturday and Sunday. I think I took one day off in the last month before going to Baja and then I worked on it a few hours a day down there. I think I have about 300 hours into it.
It still needs a tent for the wedge top, insulation, interior skin, a nicer floor, upstairs bed, another door on the passenger side, remake the main entry door (that’ll be the 3rd time), add a door on the driver side for access to recovery gear etc, figure out my my filler necks for both fuel tanks, a better place to store the spare tire, a roof vent fan, maybe a skylight, on board air, on board water, finish painting the exterior, paint bits of the interior, after/during that it’s re-gear to 4.88’s, maybe front locker and rebuild, install and all the joys of tuning a supercharger, transmission cooler and valve cover gaskets before supercharger. I also want to rig up my cpap machine so it exhausts my breathing outside to limit condensation in the camper at night.

edit: gonna copy and paste this to my build thread.
