Just repaired this time. Still see the chip but supposedly it won't spread. I know i will catch another one. Might as well wait and get a two for one when it happens.

Its soooo easy to install. 2 screws remove the cover under the steering column, pull out the cubby on the left side (just pops out) Once those 2 thing are removed you unplug the BCM, plug the harness into it and plug the BCM into the harness. Then you run the cable up the column and plug it into the ign part (silver thing on steering column) from there you hold down the button on the unit and plug in the black cable, keep holding the button down till it cycles blue, yellow, red, red/blue then to blue. then let go of the button. Then you plug in the remaining plugs into the control box (3 I think it was) and close the door. Push the lock 3 times to test. If it works, push the cubby back in, and push the column trim back in and screw it back down.

Their instructions are pretty decent and there are a few videos on youtube on how to do it.

The following was my reference, although my mistake for calling it bourbon, it is whiskey.
Is Jack Daniels produced in a dry county?
Not everyone knows that Jack Daniel's whiskey is made in a dry county. The distillery is located in Moore County, in the city of Lynchburg, Tennessee. A dry county is one that allows no alcohol sales at all.

Sh!t, looks like I screwed up and ordered the boot retainer for the manual and not the automatic. I assume they're different or else it wouldn't be labeled as "manual",

still not sure what you're trying to do. that's an old pic, there's just a 5/8"(iirc) grommet simply holding up the boot with friction. that was wonky.

there's a guy on here who makes machined retainers. for both, i think. is that what you're trying to do?

How about using a zip tie under the boot to hold it in place?

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Once I got the TSB done on the ECU the performance was much better. Note, I do drive it like a standard since all my previous Tacos where actually manual. When I want to pass I toggle the shifter to the +/- side(4th gear) and away I go. If I'm going up a steep hill I toggle again to the +/- side(4th gear) and if that is not quite enough I downshift manually into 3rd. I know this isn't the answer everyone might be looking for but it works for me.

in general, the 2020’s a little more sluggish than my 2015 4Runner was, but, like the 4Runner, I usually pop it over to “standard” shifting and drive it there, too. More responsive, and I don’t have to tap the breaks as frequently, like everyone else in the dating commute...

    Amen Brotha!

I only ended up here in a Tacoma because ordering a new one with a manual trans and equipped how I wanted was significantly less than a 5 year old 60k mike used trail edition with a manual that I probably would have had to go 1,000+ miles to find.

I'm not necessarily an OCD type typically, but just being able to see that spot would have me focused on it constantly, I comment from experience, lol.
