Talk about unethical. Here we are discussing the integrity of a company for recognizing a mistake, communicating the issue and your suggestion is to double down in retaliation?

I don’t see that SDHQ did anything wrong. They tried to be helpful, but clearly informed the customer incorrectly. Once they mistake was recognized, they immediately communicated the situation. The customer had the opportunity to cancel their order in light of the new situation. I don’t see the problem.

Unless there’s more to the story, they stated “free shipping”, the cart shows free shipping, I’m guessing you ordered and weren’t charged shipping, but they contacted you after the fact to inform you that they needed to charge you $16 shipping.

    Correct?

If that’s the case, unless their site says “shipping to AK/HI may be higher...” then they need to honor the order with free shipping. The bad press isn’t even close to worth $16. If they made a mistake, considering the low value, they should honor it BUT that is also a business decision they need to make.

It looked like they already sent the item and then charged him shipping when they said there was no shipping fee

So good company( I am a business owner ) would have acknowledged the mistake to him and said we’ll honor what we told you and correct the mistake as to not confuse other customers. I’ve made mistakes on pricing or shipping and simply honor my mistake to the customer it was made to, even if I lose money or just break even at that point. It’s called customer service and keeping a customer, in the business world repeat customers is where money is made not one and done customers.

Maybe you’re right. Maybe I agree that would be the best path. But I thought we were discussing what the customer was entitled to not what the company should do.

My point is, then, you reached out and got turned down and your concern about integrity or service was at that point already finalized.
But you made this post anyway, so.. for what reason? Except to force the issue and make them eat $16 just to appease a customer who doesn’t deserve the $16 at that point?

Customers aren’t always right, and they too have to be understanding of how the world works. I don’t know why businesses are held hostage so much on this forum, but maybe most of y’all are entitled snowflakes in real life also.

Take your business elsewhere if the $16 breaks the deal for you. Trying to seek some kind of $16 settlement by making them look bad on a forum is pretty shitty.

They’re a rather large company and I’m not sure why they can’t just give shipping rates up front.

Your company does, I was surprised at the low $25 shipping on 3 skid plates, which is great. Almost all companies give shipping rates up front, it keeps the customer from going elsewhere.

I’m not sure why SDHQ doesn’t, they’re just losing business.

    Maui, Hi
Unfortunately, the mistake was not recognized. I was told I misunderstood what their social media representative told me and I would be charged an additional shipping charge.
Yes, order was ultimately cancelled. This was simply a post for opinions on the situation

So they lost business again on their silly shipping quandary. It’s their business, just never seen a retail seller operate like that.

    Maui, Hi
My mind may have been made up at that point, but I was curious on how others felt about the situation. Everyone's opinion is their own and I was just curious where everyone stood on it.
Simply a discussion, not expecting any retribution at this point. I don't feel "entitled" to the $16, was just looking to get what I was offered, when I realized that wasn't going to happen, I cancelled my order.
If others feel this makes the company look bad then that's their opinion. On the other hand I could just look like the entitled customer.

Typically when one buys a product online there’s a pretty clear indication of what total price you’re paying prior to clicking the submit button. Normally you receive an emailed receipt as well after the fact. I’m not sure how paid shipping is a surprise in this scenario, but if it wasn’t on the order confirmation or the receipt, or was billed separately, that’s not a good business practice. I guess I’m bored enough to have tepid curiosity about this.

That company is notorious for not giving you a shipping quote until after you’ve bought the product. They add shipping on later. Total ass backwards.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
My opinion the seller dropped the ball. They messed up and should have made it right for you. The fact they didn’t do this would leave me to have low faith they would stand behind their product any better.

(Files under companies not to buy from... Nike, Dicks, Gillette, etc).

I was also curious, so I went to the site and put a random item in my cart. It came up with this disclaimer on checkout.

That’s a really weird way of doing business. People want to know what total price they’re paying upfront.

But the part in bold is key.

I’ve seen that but they have a lot of free delivered pricing. At least they did today when I looked.
