Question for y'all regarding bandsaws. I recently picked up a HF hydraulic feed band saw. I was playing around with it and really happy with the way it cuts compared to my old chop saw.
I'm curious how you guys determine the feed rate for the blade itself. The saw has a little knob on a hydraulic cylinder for adjusting the feed rate but no exact way to measure feed rate. I assume that too fast can obviously damage the blade but also was reading that too slow of a feed speed can prematurely dull the teeth. Any rule of thumb or tips for judging correct feed speed?
    Thanks.

Feel the blade after a cut. If you can't hold your bare fingers on it, you are cutting it too fast.

Cutting slower will make the blade last longer.

If you hear the motor laboring, you need to go slower.

Thanks for the tips! I have patience so slow is fine with me. Also re-reading I think I confused blade speed with feed speed as far as too slow. Sounds like too slow of speed feed is just inefficient which I don't care about since I dont mass produce anything. Thanks again.

I start with the cylinder completely closed .

Then just open it enough to move .

one of those things you will get a feel for as all those cylinders are some what different .

You don`t want to cut rust or through weld beads .

Good idea to spray lube on the guide rollers when you start the saw after it sits for some time.

Doesn`t hurt to spray the blade either once in a while.

I went through 3 blades in 30 years with lots of use

To refine that somewhat since I did lots of work on the road there were times the Saw might sit for months .

Then I am sure we could fill a few pages discussing the merits of different blades

Then always make sure the vise holds the piece to be cut tight !!

Trying to cut a piece shorter then the whole length of the vise never works well !

I got one of those stubby impacts as well. It is one awesome tool! Makes doing suspension work a breeze. It's now one of my all time favorite tools. I got one of those organizations too that I use as a tool box in my truck (I just took out the cups). How is the die grinder?
Do you have a link to that table?

Die grinder is good. It’s a little big (knew that before ordering), but I can’t stand air hoses or the sound of air tools. It’ll be a very handy addition to the Arsenal.

    that’s a jd2 notch master.

I just relocated to Virginia Beach. Tons of shipyards and work but apparently hard to get into.

I guess it depends what you want to do and where you are.

I know so many places looking passing the drug test and showing up for work seem to be the major issues
