It’s not just a lifted truck issue. My friend has a 19 that’s stock and same story. Got a crack in windshield. Went to safelight. They put new windshield in, all is good.

He gets halfway to Colorado from Ohio and all of the error codes pop up. when he gets back to Ohio takes it back to safelight. They recalibrate it and say all good. Gets 2 miles from them and bam all the codes pop up again.

Safelight won’t do anything about it and he doesn’t wanna have to pay full price for an oem windshield since his insurance already forked over money for the safelight one.

He’s been driving around with all the codes popping up since August lol.

I’ve got 100k on my 18 and it’s been nearly flawless. Just dealing with the occasional snow covered radar sensor.

Put a genuine windshield into the truck then see if they can calibrate it. It will probably be fine after that.

If not, then start looking at other options.

The dealer can definitely change the setting to retain the last TSS state after restarting the truck. I suspect the advisor was stating they cannot disable the system completely, which is true, but they can change that retention setting for you.

Once you’ve done all that you may need to see about getting the truck back to stock height, etc., but I doubt it will be necessary.

I’ve seen numerous issues after windshield replacements with aftermarket glass on a completely stock vehicle. The glass companies do not have it down yet. Stick with original glass for now.

Not Tacoma related, but my wife had a rock hit her '19 Highlander windshield, we have USAA, so Safelite. Normally they come to you to repair/replace, but when told of the specific vehicle model, stated we had to bring it to their shop for the calibration thing. Haven't had a single problem with it. They took care of all of it in house, and insurance paid for it all with no money out of pocket. I guess it's just the insurance we have?

The Tacoma is the last vehicle that needs safety tech. Most Tacoma drivers are not reckless to begin with.

The OP said he took it to the dealership and they out sourced it. Sounds like the dealership needs to make it right as they subbed the job out.

I place blame 100% on the glass shop . They should know how to reinstall the camera so it works . That's why some of these companies are charging $1,000 for a replacement .

Didn’t realize it was a sublet from the dealership to the glass company. Definitely changes the perspective a bit.

Did the dealer offer you a choice between OE or aftermarket glass? Are the offering for you to just pay the difference between now, or are they wanting you to pay for the whole thing again?

Do you have glass coverage at all?

I had the windshield replaced last Friday at Safelite with non-OEM glass. I declined recalibration and a pre-colision warning came on, but no other warning. I'm also lifted with bigger tires, but stock grill.

The following day I went back and did the recalibration, and haven't had any issues in five days. The guy told me he had to spend more time than usual because he couldn't get it right, but fortunately he did eventually.

No updates as of yet, unfortunately I had to go out of town on business for the week and don't return until Friday.
