You may have more luck posting in the audio forum if you haven't already. When I redid my speakers there was much more good info in there compared to the 3rd gen forum.

Yes, you can add any tweeter you like. Just need an adapter plate and harness.

Did you split open this harness to connect the remote crossovers?

I did. I put on some directional JBL tweeters and wired it up to the door speaker wires. I put them on an unused area of my door panel.

Same as above tweeters, but the stadium version (pretty much the same but in orange) I didnt use the adjustable mounting cups though, I just hot glued them in flush

I went with a full active 3 way components up front.

But, if you wanted to put tweeters in the sail panels you would wire them as a component set (woofer and tweeter) in the door. Wiring the crossover makes things easy this way.

So did you remove the dashboard tweeters and replace with a different speaker and then added the tweeter to sail Panel?

Yeah, I ended up cutting the wires right where 4 goes into 2 and then extended each of the 4 wires. I basically made the taco tunes harness...

It's been a while but I believe I ran the two "source" wires on the harness to the crossovers input. The other two wires I ran to the woofer output on the crossover. Then I ran new wire from the tweeter output to the tweeters.
