Mine is a short bed and I drill down through top of fenders instead of bed. See post #11 in this thread.

Much thanks for taking the time to compile this info. Thank you all that took the time to post regarding your experiences and fixes!

Bought a Mx4 and the damn thing leaks. When I registered the cover, I made them aware of the leaking cover. I’ll use these mods and hopefully it’ll be a lot more rain proof than it currently is.

I did the 1/4" wide by 1/8" on the sides. Did 2 rows on the front of the cover.
Was going to just wedge foam in there, but wanted to use the higher quality dense foam.
Got a sheet from Hobby Lobby for $1.77. I think it was 12" x 18". There were 2 thickness. Got the thicker one. Then got the double sided sticky tape. It was $2.22 or something.
I cut out squares and put them on top of the squares that Bakflip included. Then I closed up the other opening on the end of the rails with a L shaped piece. This made it look clean and didn't look bad. The foam matches the Bakflip foam they sent out. All of it was the same type.
Going to RTV under the folding seals on top and where the border aluminum meets the panels.

Awesome looking cover. question, after silicone sealing it up are you still able to remove it from the truck? or does removal involve cleaning up silicone and re applying when you re install? also will occasionally carry dirtbikes in the back of my Tacoma with tailgate down, do you guys think I could do this with the cover folded up against the glass and have the bikes front tire up to the front of the bed or would I need to remove the cover all together? is removal a pain?

Getting ready to install on Friday and ordering extra rubber seals, I’ve got the 1/4” x 1/8” seal and tailgate gasket but where can I find this 3/16” seal and the gasket underneath? Or should I just use the 1/4 x 1/8” pieces also in these locations at the front and for the underneath at bulkhead gaskets

I just had some laying around. You can pretty much use scraps of anything 3/16” or less. I was just filling a small void that didn’t have a great way to seal. You could also put a glob of RTV.

The gray gaskets underneath probably don’t do much, I just jammed them in there because I could still see a smidge of daylight. RTV is probably better to fill any tiny gap remaining. I think you could even apply it such that it doesn’t touch the truck bed on only fills between the other gaskets and the corner of the rails.

We got some rain here in SoCal and definitely have some water leaking through. I’m a little confused on where the weather stripping goes. Do I need to remove the cover bracket and put them between the bracket and the frame?

Just installed a new MX4 (redesigned?) and noticed foam at all the corners. It’s preventing the cover from sitting flush.

Is this foam for packaging or actually for sealing? Seems to make the seal worse.

I'm pretty sure you need to remove that. I seem to recall those are just packaging. Regardless they aren't on the rails on my installed MX4 any more.

IMG_0132 2.jpg I just installed my MX4 yesterday and I wondered about the foam at the front corners as well. It does not look right, but I wanted to make sure they were not there for a reason before I removed them...

I wonder when they redesigned it. Yours does not have the new plastic corner piece that ours have.

Hmm, mine's less than a year old. I bought it back in February, so recently!

Redesign, I have the older version on my last truck and didnt have these same with my Dad's raptor, my new one has these, I was like WTF is this. It definatley looks odd and doesnt seem to be packing its on there good and would be overkill just to protect the seal in shipping, not sure why they added it.

Update: Just spoke to BakFlip and the foam at each front corner is part of the new redesigned "finishing Kit" on the MX4. I was told that the foam should not be removed.

Looks like they just redesigned the MX4 a very short time ago..

So I’ve done all the foam, silicone, tailgate weatherstripping, got inside and 0 daylight anywhere when closed and mine still leaks. It’s not too bad but deff more than I would expect. I think the water is just getting into the channel where it’s supposed to drain down the tube and just not draining right and over flowing over the edge into the bed. Kind of sucks for how expensive this thing is to have this much water getting in.

yep you will still get some leaks but they will be relatively insignificant. Without the extra seals the rails leak horrifically.

I just tore the rails back off and added a bead of silicone down along the bed rail and re mounted the rails. I also added a piece of foam to the tailgate end of the bed rail as there was nothing on this end to prevent water from spilling out the end. And some silicone in a few other spots.
We shall see. Got it all re installed now. Bring on the rain.
