Question - most modern cars use these "smart keys" now, is the Toyota/Lexus version somehow different than other car companies' technology? Or are Toyotas and Lexuses just that much more desirable to thieves?

Yep, it’s only a truck. If it gets stolen, I’ll take my insurance check to the dealer and pickup another. If you are worried about accessories, pickup a separate policy to cover them.

I never liked the idea of a smart key/fob. My buddy loved it at first in his 19 OR but now he kinda hates it. Says its easy to loose and just wishes he could have the key.

I thought the smart key was a novelty when we got the truck, now I curse when I have to get a key out for the Subaru..

Yep. I went from a vehicle with a smart key (‘18 Raptor) to a vehicle without a smart key (‘16 4Runner) and cursed my archaic key every time I got in to go anywhere. I love my 4Runner (still have it) but I love my ‘20 Taco more and the smart key is one of the reasons why.

Certainly it will. It's only a deterrent. It would dissuade at-least car thief's. For a determined car thief, there's no security system out there that cannot be beaten.

Probably because the Toyota parts market is huge in most of Africa. Our company Prado got broken into multiple times for stupid reasons, there. The first time the only thing they stole were the AC vents. The second time they got the window/lock switches out of the front two doors.

all fine and dandy till you cant get the same truck for what the insurance is giving you.... or when you walk out to your truck to get to work and its not there yet still need to work. Never understood the "oh insurance will just cover it".... yeah but they arent going to cover the frustration, time, energy, loss of work etc etc. Be proactive rather than re-active.
