I was referring to 2010. I took it in a few months ago after they notified there was a redesigned bellhousing, however corporate stepped in on the day I took it in, telling them to hold off saying that this last design didn't fix the problem.

I need to call corporate myself as now my transmission isn't engaging gears smoothly anymore...symptoms suggest that the clutch isn't fully disengaging. I'm hoping to get a new (and updated) transmission.

    Hey Toph,

Interesting....I am awaiting a call from the local dealer to bring it in and have those parts replaced...Do you have a reference number about your conversations with corporate? Could you share that number with me. Right now I am thinking of buying the PDM kit and tell the dealer to install at the same time they will put new parts.

This whole thing is a headache. 2010 is about over and nothing from corporate about a tsb for this POS design. I'd rather pay more if they brought them built from Japan.

Thanks for any info you can share on this.

Unfortunately everything has been through the dealer. I have yet to talk to corporate myself. I know how you feel...I hate driving a truck that sounds like a POS with all this squeaking

Did you ever figure out what that engine light was all about? How difficult is it to drop the tranny on these trucks? Is there a sticky about it somewhere?

Same problem with my 07 6 speed, The toyota center told me that it was the release bearing and the person that had the truck before had previously replaced this, they said they will not replace it due to Toyota redesigning it. so i have to go back in a month and hopefully get it replaced.

For those of you who have gotten the PDM kit. Is it a good Idea to get this now, before I end up having this issue? I have just under 16k miles on my 09. No squeaks yet. What does this generally cost to have installed? Something I can do myself?

    Kernel,

I say yes. I am still waiting for my kit. PDM is draggin' ass. Look at it as a form of insurance. If that Bell housing is toast and you can't get that dealer to cover it, you are looking at $400 for the new part plus the labor.

Now, for those of you who had the opportunity to look into the bell housing pilot shaft, is it 100% aluminum? I posted my frustration on the toyota fb page and was told to give the 1 800 # a call. Well after 55 plus minutes on the phone with some lady that kept talking to the engineers, she told me that the engineers told her that the pilot shaft is 100% steel. I asked for the bell housing part number but she could not produce it b/c she has no access to that database. She stated that the bell housing is aluminum and the pilot shaft is steel. Is this correct or are the engineers full of smoke. Looking at the pics posted early on this thread, it looks like aluminum to me.

I wish I could order a bell housing from the parts department just to look at it right there at the dealership but I am not going to waste time on it. It will make me go ballistic when I see it.

I have a case open but I will crap my pants to see how good will this end...

Lemon law it. I have before and it is a beautiful thing - bought my 7 series back for what I paid for it and I had it for 2 years. I have used this guy twice and another friend used him too. Did not cost me a dime and he is great to work with. Call him and see if they can help you.

They work with people through out the state of CA since they don't look at the vehicle - they just look for the Dealer doing the right thing per the Lemon Laws.

I just got off the phone with him - he's in the office right now... You may want to give him a call, like I said, it costs you nothing and if you can get every dollar back that you paid for the truck - you win!

I think 3 times on the same issue. It varies from state to state.

I personally say bail on it. Get your money back. Get another one with an auto 5 speed and pocket the difference.

Im having this problem with my 4cy 5 speed. Im at 42k so I am no longer under my 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty. Am I screwed? Am I going to be paying big bucks to get this fixed?

Only applies to the 6 speed, you have a 5 speed. You could just have a bad throwout bearing though too.

yeah i dont hear any squeaking like you guys described but i hear a little sound when in neutral and when i step on the clutch it goes away. I was told by a buddy its probably my TO bearing. What should i do about this. If i keep it like this for much longer am i going to cause alot more damage?
    Thanks for your help

Well yesterday I developed a metallic ringing around 2000 rpm. The chirp has gone away and now this new noise....with 36000 coming in about 50 miles.:(

Well, 42k is really early for a bad TO bearing, and the problem is that the trans needs to be opened up to access and replace it. They always do it when replacing a clutch, and I am not sure what damage can be done, if any, by just letting it go until you need to do a clutch change, typically at 70-80k miles, depending on how you drive.
