What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

A difference in this height could cause the problems that @Blackdawg is experiencing. Even still, I don’t think the heights would be that much of a difference to where he is bottoming out on the threads and needs to use washers and spacers.



Based on this picture, I think Solo made a mistake

 

The length and size of the studs on the 4Runner and Tacoma LBJ are the same. 4Runner just looks a little longer b/c the boot is compressed from use. Having been there with Monte when we figured out how to solve his issue with the SOLO LCA, I'd say that it's for sure that the set he got are not right (unless he somehow has horked his LBJs...which well...it is Monte ). Assuming he didn't though, it's just a question of whether he got the only set, or if there are others.

 

I tired using my bros 4runner LBJ and tie rods on my Tacoma and his parts where smaller and didn't work. Looks like the 4runner used different parts.

 

Nope, decided the taco needed them more and 35s and LT is the sweet spot anyway

 

That's the whole convo we've been having, hahahaha. You replied to a post where I had a pic of how they are different.

You can use Taco stuff on a 4Runner, but only if you swap out the LBJ and OTRE. Never thought about swapping the other way - no reason to really.

 

Finally installed my Apex bumper , wheels and tires. Now for an alignment to push my wheels forward to alleviate rubbing.

Looks good, I have that same bumper I'm picking up in a couple days. Pretty easy to install on your own with a floor jack or did you need an extra set of hands to do it?

On the subject of alignment, I got my 33s to stop rubbing when I asked the alignment shop to put my caster at 3˚

 

Can anyone confirm a part number on a front wheel bearing (manual hub if that makes a difference)

Working on replacing U joints, carrier bearing and transmission mount. I noticed in the double cardan there’s a slight catch in it, but only when it’s at the furthest point in the motion on one side. I plan on swapping it with my old pre-4wd conversion shaft, but even that one has a small catch in the farthest point in its range of motion on one side, but it’s feels better than what’s currently on the truck. Is it normal for it to have a slight catch or should it be perfectly smooth in all directions? Just seems odd both would do it.

I'm fairly sure it doesn't. It's just the presence of a retaining nut deal to grapple the manual hub base vs a CV axle nut holding the whole shebang laterally.
