Okay guys and girls, I didn't swing for the upgraded audio in my 2019 TRD Sport and I really don't like the factory sound so I've ordered these for my 2019 TRD sport, front and back door. Not sure if I need to add a small amp. I'm not looking for big sound just a more crisp sound. Have anybody upgraded their speakers without adding an amp

I added these same exact speakers, with no amp upgrade. They are a big improvement in clarity. Much more punchy and much, much more clear, and you can turn the stereo all the way up with no distortion. The kick drum hits are much more defined and powerful. They lack a little mid-range warmth at the moment, but like most speakers I am sure they will warm up over time. I’ve only got a few hours or so of listening on them so far.

The new front door speakers, like the OEM speakers, provide 85% of the bass response, with the rear doors being more of fill speakers. I’m not sure of this is a function of the OEM crossover, or just due to the speaker size. The biggest change with these speakers is the rear seating position gets clear music now.

I bought the foam ‘backboxes’ from Crutchfield as well as a lot of dust and dirt gets into the doors if you offroad at all, and the stock speakers have an integral drip shield that these do not.

Just an edit. If you get the foam back boxes / baffles be sure to cut the bottom half of the baffle out so it doesn’t kill your bass response. Your just want the foam baffle to act as a drip shield to replace the OEM function.

Yes I did. I used YouTube tutorials. My first door disassembly. It went fine. I broke one clip. Ordered a new one on Amazon.

    This fellas vids were helpful.

NOTE: The small white clips on the “door garnishes” (smaller plastic cover pieces on the pillars) will stay stuck in the door when you pry off the door skin. You need to remove these clips from the door, and put them back on the garnish piece before you push the garnish piece back on, or you will push the clips into the door void. I figured this out the hard way. You will know what I’m talking about when you take the door skin off.

I did this upgrade a few weeks back. I don't have the JBL system. 6x9 3-way Kickers in the front doors, and the 6.5" Kickers in the rear doors. Memphis Audio tweeters in the dash (you would need to modify a strap for them as the tweeter bracket they are mounted too does not line up with the holes in the dash).

Have not upgraded with a kicker key amp or a powered sub....maybe someday...but for now, this really brought the sound to life. Completely happy with it. I completed this setup in less than 1 hr on the truck (have had the door panels off before, and prepped the speakers in their brackets the night before).

Tons of people have done the same thing just use the best speakers you can find that also have lower RMS and OHM ratings and you'll be fine. The fosgate Prime and the JBL 2ohm they sell at Bestbuy for example.

Do any of you guys have a link to the 2017 Tacoma’s rear speaker mounting brackets and wiring harnesses?

I blew both the rear JBL and bought the alpine rs65.2 to replace the blown jbl speakers
