I've got several friends with motorcycle trailers and no one ever even thought about putting plates on them. It's never been a problem.

If I rent a one-man post-hole digger on wheels from the local Big Orange Box and tow it home, does that need to be plated?

Here it does. We rented a portable cement mixer, and it came complete with cement-covered license plate.

These photos are from a few weeks back (last time my girl was nice and clean) but I saw the first light dusting of snow on my way out of the house this morning. Ski season can't be far off.
