OK! My liberal friends accused me of being " homophobic". I said fine, if there is no problem with showering and sleeping with someone that is sexually attracted to me, the let's make the entire military coed - locker rooms, bathrooms, showers... men, women all together. Their immediate response was. "but, but, but, uh that's not fair" It shut 'em right up!

While every gay male may not be attracted to every man, the same holds true for the straight man. He doesn't want to sleep with every woman.
So if there going to open the door for gays to come out then it would stand to reason that all gay, straight, men and women would have to have separate facilities. That's 4 different facilities...
That's gonna cost the taxpayer some serious bucks.

right....not every man wants to vage rape every woman and not every gay male wants to buttplug every male, so there is no need for any other facilities than what we already have. no one is trying to get anyone else, so no need for seperation

yeah not to sure about openly gays in the military, last time i was in the desert we had some muther F-er going through the showers looking over curtains with a mirror on a stick!! 100% serious...the dude that caught him looking into his shower ran him down and put his face in the dirt. guess who got in trouble? not the dude with the mirror...if they are going to allow them to be openly gay in the military then they should also pass a law that if one sexually harrases or assaults a straight man, that man should have the right to an uppercut and not get in trouble...

It's a matter of perception. If the military is open for all, then it would be appropriate to have separate facilities for all.
If your the guy or gal being ogled, then you want some way to distance yourself from that type of harassment - even if it's just perceived. That's why there are separate facilities right now for men and women.

None yet......trying to figure out where to start ;)
First of all, by "seperate facilities for men and women", are you referring to heterosexual males and females, or homosexuals? ..as this thread was intended to discuss. We have seperate facilities right now for heterosexual males and females, so no babies are made and mission can get accomplished. Currently, no, there are no seperate facilities for homosexual males / females. You're twisting words and not understanding the content of the discussion before you post. Please clarify what you are talking about. :)

    As for my $0.02?
I think this whole thing is not a matter of gays in the military, but the matter of them being "open" about it. There are gays in the military right now. Most of us probably know one. So what's the difference? That one person we may know keeps their mouth shut and doesn't say anything about it. It's kind of a "hush hush" type thing. We all know it, but no one says anything.

I think the controversy stems from the "openness" about it. Do I mind if gays serve in my military? They already are, and there's not much I could do about it, even if I wanted to. My only concerns are them being open about it.

Set rules for behavior conduct, not sexual orientation. Heterosexuals can't "openly" express their feelings towards the opposite sex either. Fraternization? Sound Familiar? Make it even across the board.

    Ok, i'm done :D

I know of straight guys who have done gayer shit than that.

And if someone can't control themselves from beating a guys ass for a perceived or actual transgression- I don't want to have to work with them while they carry a gun..Don't want to offend them and then they get REALLY mad.

I dont think it is that we don't want gays serving in the military maybe not majority, but fact like already stated is that there are gays already serving and they all seem to live in San Diego. The problem with taking away the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy is now you have opened them up to fair game. Especially with the grunts some hurt feelings are sure to follow their come out party. Maybe that person who was always part of the group, will now be ignored from everybody and that doesn't raise morale any. Just about all the flamers I've met you can tell that they are different or homosexual and its fine with me. But leave the policy alone and lets concentrate on killing terrorists!!!

Yeah, I was speaking of total separation of gays, heterosexual males, lesbians, and women in general. And no, l knew exactly what I was saying. There was no twisting of words. I have followed this entire posting from beginning to end. You seem to be offended. Sorry about that.
I suppose as a heterosexual male I would either prefer not to know or if it's going to be in the open then give em their own barracks. I want to be comfortable and everyone else should be as well.
Yeah, that might be a bit of a controversy in itself. I am not particularly homophobic- well just so no one jumps on that I could be a bit, but if you wish to come out then get your own room bud.
Lastly, I don't have a problem with anyone, no matter their sexual preference serving in the military. Many good people out there can serve with honor and dignity. All are capable of doing fantastic jobs.

On another note.. Does anyone believe that if Dont ask Dont Tell was repealed that recruiters offices would be flooded with gay applicants.. because i dont, they will stand around and picket and have rallys and protest it, but when the time comes i doubt there would be an out poor of them rushing to join. But for the ones that would join, i hope they dont face hard times and issues from other troops

i dont think it is as much about the gays that havent joined because of the law, but more about the valuable ones that have been kicked out because of it and the thousands that are in hiding in service right now.

that is very true.. i just thought it was funny.. i was surfin the net and saw something about these guys in fishnet tank tops and high heels holdin up signs that said "Why cant I serve my Country"... and i just made me think.. if they repealed DADT right now you wouldnt sign up anyways..

It does suck that people that were kick ass troops get kicked out after 5-10-15 years for being gay.. that is the thing that needs to change, the kicking out part..

I just really want to know if it is repealed what kind of benefits will they get. Will they get the dependent BAH Pay and Seperation pay, for having a "Life Partner" or will the military reconize or accept Gay Marriage..will "life partners" get Medical benefits from Tricare... I just think there is soo many things that will be debated for years.. no one will ever be completly happy

how would gays in basic training work.. are they mixed in with the straights.. bc you know there will be people that wont want to shower with a gay.. but you cant put them in there own flight because that is segragation not to mention they would want that so they can have BF/GFs.. maybe gay guys mixed with girls. and gay girls mixed with guys.. i know that would never work either.

I wouldnt think that partners would be allowed benefits until same sex marriage becomes a federal issue...or unless they allow it if they were married in the states that allow same sex marriages.

In order for the people to be not kicked out for it, DADT has to be gone. DADT says that you cant ask if someone is gay, but if it is made known, they they are gone. cant have it both ways...well maybe some of them do...lol

gays are already going through basic as we speak. there is a good chance there was at least one gay person in all off our basic flights/platoons/etc. it'd be easier to remove all the homophobes into their own section.
