    Long story short:

Shaking from rear when braking. The first time in, the dealer blew it off and claimed it was "rust on the rotors". 2019 with 1000 miles.

The second time in, they claimed the drums were out of round, and machined them. No change in symptoms.

The third time in, they replaced the rear axle shafts. This made the problem go from consistent to come and go.

This is the fourth time and the truck now has 7000 miles. Toyota sent a "specialist" to look at it with the master tech. After a 20 mile test drive with them, they are baffled.

The gave me a loaner and will call me tomorrow.

Needless to say I'm aggravated. I like the truck, just want it fixed.

I'll update as I get more information.

UPDATE: they replaced the drums and shoes, balanced the tires, checked driveline angles, verified the new axle shafts are within spec (even measured axles off of a 2020 on the lot), axles were in spec.

UPDATE: it's finally fixed! The cause of the problem this entire time was the pushrod for the brake pedal to master cylinder was adjusted way too long, causing the rear brakes to engage too soon and overheat. They adjusted the pushrod to the proper spec, replaced the rear shoes and drums, balanced the tires, and it's all good. Truck is all around way smoother now. I'm thrilled and finally love this truck again.

What's your point? I know I am not the only one with this problem.

My point is there are two threads to bitch about it in, and over 600 posts that discuss the issue and various attempts by Toyota to remedy the issue. Maybe you can learn yourself something instead of taking your attitude out on me for pointing you to some valuable information.

I'm just here to document MY truck's issue, in case it helps others. If you have nothing worthwhile to contribute, please move on.

Does it happen on or off the brakes from around 25-15 mph?

If yes, then it is a known quirk with these trucks and there is no true "fix" for it. A bed mat helps reduce it considerably.

It's hit or miss between 20ish and 40ish mph, and during the 20 mile test drive today the shaking only happened 7 times. The tech and specialist were confused as to how it could shake coming to one red light but not the next one a quarter mile down the road. Tried drive, neutral, sport mode, uphill, downhill, bed loaded and unloaded, different tire pressures, no change. Also, the shaking seems to compound itself/get progressively worse as you are slowing down.

Dealer called earlier, they said the new rear axle shafts they installed were out of spec, just like the old ones. They want to start by replacing them again and go from there. I'll post more once I hear.

Specialist called today, new rear axles they installed have the same "spec" as two more new pairs they ordered, so they didn't replace them again. They replaced the drums, didn't change, then they replaced the brake shoes, and they think the shake is gone. They are gonna drive it some more tomorrow to make sure.

If the new shoes are not properly bedded........... problems will reappear, although they may feel different.

Turns out the brake shoes did not fix the problem, so I've been told now there's a conference call with a bunch of higher ups monday to see "what else can be done". I'll update with the next info I get.
