2019 Tacoma TRD Pro Grill

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the TRD pro grill that many companys offer for the 19 Tacoma. I really don't want to spend the money on the oem version.

1. Does anyone know of a company who sells a quality version? Looking for an oem like fit if possible.

2. I noticed the garnish sensor has been a problem for some, I see they offer a plate to relocate. However some have complained about it getting wet and not working properly.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought mine from The Taco Garage and bought the aftermarket garnish. No issues, great fit, and the letters are screwed on instead of stuck in like some others.

 

Thanks for the info! Taco garage looks legit. But why is the garnish cover listed twice? One for $50 & the other is $150. Crazy for a peice of plastic!

 

The garnish is actually glass. The $50 is the aftermarket one, the $150 is the oem garnish.

 

I got my grill and garnish from Running4tacos.com. I made sure to get the TSB for the sensor in the grill done before I replaced the bumper with the PRO. Sensor does not work properly sometimes if it’s raining out especially over here in the PNW.

 

Is there ever a preferred one with better results from people? In addition I suppose same thing for 2020? Thank you!

 

I can only speak to my experience. I went aftermarket and have had zero issues with it.

 

Why not OEM? It can be had for $250.00 and the garnish for $50.00. I went trough 2 aftermarket ones and ended up with OEM after all. It fits, looks and performs as designed.

 

While this topic has been covered to death, I will go ahead and provide my 2 cents worth. As calebc said above, get one with screw on letters and NOT the ones with stick on letters. There have been posts here from people whose letters came off, and they are trying to get one or two replacement letters. Yeah, good luck with that one! And yes, weather WILL have an effect on the sensor, but that is true whether or not you replace the grill with a TRD Pro one. This is what bugs me about Toyota; in that they obviously did NO testing on the TSS system in real world scenarios, such as rain, bug splatters, salt air spray at the beach, etc. I experienced all of these things affecting my TSS sensor during my recent cross country trip from CA to NC and back. However, having said that, I only experienced problems with the TSS system going EAST! Once I got to NC, the TSS system worked perfectly and did so, all the way back across the country! I had to take the truck into the dealer when I got back, for the 10,000 mile maintenance, and believe me, I TOLD them about the little things I learned about the truck such as about the TSS sensor, while I was there. It probably did no good, but at least I got it off my chest. BUT, the Service manager told me that the TSS system was a LEARNING SYSTEM, which was why it worked perfectly on the way back across the country. It had 'learned' about bugs, rain, etc and as such, had compensated for it. I don't know if that is true or not, but hey, it has worked perfectly since leaving NC for CA! And I bought my TRD Pro grill from madhornets.com. It only took 20 minutes or so, to swap out the OEM grill for the new TRD Pro one, but that was because I had watched multiple videos on youtube from people who had posted on how to do it. I highly recommend doing that, as it will save you a lot of time.

I am wanting so bad to do this Pro grill swap for my 2020(stock grill is more to my taste than before models), but the sensor apparently I have only seen it work once and because car had to legit stop infront of me(and I got it on high sensitivity). Service guy gave me a rant not to do it, anything happens front collision Toyota would not warranty it etc. Different placements on sensor and that they can only reset it to factory standards if any error. For now, he legit scared me out of it although I have been looking at swapping the grill BEFORE I even bought the truck haha

Man, I had my TRD Pro grill in the house even before my new truck had arrived at the dealership! [I ordered it] No doubt in my mind that it was the best thing I have done to the truck. A lot depends though, I think, on the color of the truck. Mine is quicksand, and so, with the TRD Pro grill, well, it just POPS! Also, I added to it by installing a black bug deflector that does NOT sit directly on the hood, and that additional black from the deflector just adds a whole lot to it. But again, it is because of the quicksand color. When I took my truck into the dealer for the 10,000 service, they didn't say a thing about the pro grill, even when I complained to them about how the PCS OFF light was on the whole way across the country going east! As others have said, it is all a matter of preference, and what one likes. But to me, the first time I heard someone refer to the OEM grill as "chicken wire", that did it for me, and I knew I had to swap it out!

That's a second one I bought. Quality was sh!t, at least by my standards.

 

My experience is that ZERO aftermarket parts fit or perform as good as an OEM part. That goes for grills, headlights, wheels, etc.

 

This is the one I bought from madhornets, and I think it is great. The quality was excellent, although I DID have a little trouble getting the sensor cover to fit properly. I had to actually 'shave' a little off of a couple of the tabs, but did so only after consulting with madhornets support. they were very good about sending pics of what exactly to do, although I must admit that I also gave them an earful about sending the thing, knowing it would need a little trimming. BUT, considering all I saved, I am ok with it, especially that all is good once you get it installed!

 

Lucky you. My experience was opposite, I couldn't get a refund processed from them so I had to dispute it trough my credit card company, they didn't even responded or disputed my complaint. Never again.

 

My pro grill from Mad Hornets is spectacular. Very satisfied.
