Where did you send them off for powder coating and how long did it take?

If you leave them on wrap a bag around the brakes if you take them off put index cards around the wheel lip or tape off clean before taping and dipping

Anyone here use the Duplicolor wheel paint? Just curious what the quality is. I was thinking of going this route but haven't found too many people who have tried it first hand.

Would the original black have to be stripped off to powder coat these or can a layer be done over the top?

For those of you who dipped your wheels, what do you use when cleaning the rims? I'm assuming you couldn't use the heavier duty wheel cleaners, but that's just a guess.

I am looking to do the same to my Tacoma 2018 TRD OFF ROAD wheels. I changed my center caps to the TRD PRO OEM caps and the wheels look great. I might as well go all the way and change the entire wheels to black. On my tag it shows I have 2006 Silver Tacoma TRD SPORT. I kept it over 280K miles and still runs good.

Plasti dipped these in January. Really liking how well they are holding up.

Found a shop that will powder coat my wheels for $420 cash. That includes them removing tires and installing/balancing new tires which I'll bring with me. I'm definitely going to go this route. Only catch is I'll have to leave my truck there for 24 hours so I need to figure out those logistics. Thanks everyone for posting here.

The thing I'm struggling with now is whether I go black or bronze. Really curious what our wheels would look like in Bronze.

Here's a link to the shop for anyone in the Cincinnati area:

Here's an outline of their process from the quote they sent me. Pretty good deal IMO.

Painted the silver Toyota emblem on the center cap to match the rest of the powder coated rims, 34050376-49AF-423E-BBB6-E4453FFE576F.jpg and Upgraded from my stock Goodyear wranglers to the 265/75/16 Toyo open country at2. Very happy with them!

I want to do the same with my wheels. How many cans do I need? If I use clear coat after, do I need the same amount as the spray paint?

did you powder coat the center cap as well, or did you use a different paint for the center caps?

Problems with powder coated getting chips or nicks? If so, did anyone get touch up paint to match?

I heard from other threads that doing it yourself with high quality spray paint would give the same results plus easier to fit nicks and chips if they happen.

I had mine painted by a local auto body repair and paint shop.

Once had a Subaru crosstrek. Those were partially painted from the factory and they didn’t have a chipping problem.

Got a set of the SEMA style 17” wheels painted gloss black for my Tacoma. They look great. I’ve had them for a few months now. No chipping that I can see. If you use a powdercoat, it would probably be an even more durable finish.

I didn’t powdercoat due to concerns of weakening aluminum. Never could find actual data on whether or not the wheels would be damaged by the baking process.

Man, you guys are finding good prices on powder. I was getting quoted like $150/wheel for powder and I'm pretty sure that didn't include prep (coating is pitted to hell). At that rate I'd rather eat oatmeal for a week and get a new set of SCS F5s. If I could get all 4 wheels coated for $400 I'd be all about that

unless your dead set on powder, look at a professional paint job. Cost me 150 for all 4.
