so i like to warm my truck up in the morning in the garage. once i start the truck and walk back inside the truck beeps for a bit. is there anyway to lock the truck while it warms up? if not how far away would a potential thief get with my new truck before (im assuming) the truck would shut down due to the key being far away? gracias...

Not to be contrarian, but unless you are taking your truck out and flogging it from the get go, your warmup period is just wasting gas. Not helping the truck.

Obviously personal comfort from heat or safety from clearing ice are exceptions, but you are in a garage.

Vehicles are best brought to operating temperature with normal driving, which will include the gear box and differential, which are still cold in your method.

That said. I have no idea about the key thing. Walk away and see what happens. If anything.

You can lock it with the metal key that is inside the fob. The thief will get as far as they want until they press they start/stop button or run out of gas.

Don't believe it shuts down, no matter how far away the key is. Once the ignition is shut off, then the fob has to be in range to start back up. Toyota doesn't want the liability of a truck driving down the street and shutting off in the middle of an intersection.

If it's started, there's nothing stopping it from going 500 miles unless the ignition is shut off.

I have to warm mine up just to get the clutch working properly. If i don't, it has trouble coming off the floor.

My morning goes, start truck, full blast on floor. Add defrost if necessary

I actually figured this out recently.

    1. Open truck with remote (1 click to open driver door only).
    2. Start truck.
    3. Close driver door, lock with physical key.

Result is truck running, all doors locked. Yeah, someone could bust in and drive off, but it's better than being unlocked.

Alternate idea- run a small electric heater in your garage. Then just start the truck and go. By the time it starts to be uncomfortable the truck will be warmed up.

If you're worried about people taking your truck, the same people could be wandering into your open garage door while it's warming up. Unless you're warming it with the door down. Please don't say you're doing that.

When I lived so close to work that it wouldn't get heated up on it's own, I plugged in my block heater with a timer. Turn it on at 4am and by the time I'm at the end of the block the needle is right in the middle.

I was already getting a tracking and remote disable system installed. All wrapped up together it didn't cost much at allp
