Bad service department, how would you respond?

So how would you react to this situation. Took my truck to a dealership for the 30K service. No complaints after having all of the free services done there until this trip. I always take my pistol with me remove any other valuables but today feel very violated.

I get my truck and all the contents of the glove box are scattered all through the cab. Not happy and went back in and asked why they would do that. When I get back to my truck I take a closer look and notice both of the storage compartments under the rear seats (access cab) had been opened; the sunglasses storage over the mirror was open; the seat was adjusted way forward; the radio station was changed; the auto dim mirror was turned on; and the mpg display had dropped 1/2 a mpg with about 1.5 miles put on the odometer. How does that happen? Now I'm mad and I go back in and ask why someone rooted through my shit. Just blank looks and a half-hearted 'sorry you're not happy.'

To top it off they put a sticker saying then next oil change is due in 5K miles. Did they not use synthetic or did they mean next service or are they that anxious to invade my privacy again or think I will have better stuff to steal in 5K miles? I won't go back and will do my own maintenance from now on.

I know what I wanted to say but how would you react?

 

I probably would have been driven off the lot in a paddy wagon.

 

I would be pissed off, and would make it known to the management why I was unhappy. Also a very detailed yelp (or other review site) review may get their attention. Most importantly like you said don’t go back there for service.

 

Find a new dealer and move on.

 

I'd probably leave reviews EVERYWHERE about how they went through all your shit.

 

Personally I would walk the Serv. Manager to my truck, point everything out, and ask that they question whatever employees are assigned running the vehicles to/from the service bay.

After that, leave a review on Google maps and find another dealer.

 

I wouldn't. I would realize that I can't prove anything and that the dealership will of course deny deny deny. Not exactly society's "best" all under one roof there, bud. Write a few reviews on multiple sites for them but understand that nobody reads them besides for a 'copy and paste' dealership response about how they will address it and take it into consideration.

Find a trusted independent shop to take care of your vehicle or do it yourself and make sure it is well documented. If you have a good number of firearms at home, make sure they are inside a bolted down *actual* safe because who knows? Maybe they saw signs of a possible firearm and were looking for it. May be scoping out your place now for some boomsticks.

Also, no one really seems to know what kind of oil dealerships use. Probably some generic stuff that comes in by the barrel.

 

Good point whatstcp, I did have a can of CLP in a cup holder.

FWIW I keep everything locked up and feel good between the dogs, alarm, cameras, and watchful neighbor. Didn't even think about someone checking out my house.

 

I hate to say it, but when I was a tech I looked in consoles and glove boxes. Why? because as you stated you keep a pistol in your vehicle, no big deal right? Well until I get pulled over on a road test and it becomes a big deal. Some people keep other "things" in a vehicle that can land a tech a large roadside ass-ache

 

damn that is a solid point from a tech's perspective. Law enforcement always states that the driver of the vehicle is responsible for stuff they know AND don't know about in the vehicle so someone test driving the vehicle after service can get in trouble for a little J, or gun, or knife, or anything really.

 

I would have called their bluff, should have told the service manager you were calling the cops and filing criminal mischief charges and start taking pics of the inside of the truck with it sitting on the drive until the cops arrived have them call every person that may have been in the truck and question them and make a report. Nothing may have come of it but should would make them look like crap when everyone at the dealer is watching. Now find yourself a good private shop.

 

Agree it's a good point from a techs perspective. But do they need to test drive after a 30k service where no issues or concerns were mentioned?

 

I try to clear my truck out completely when I take it for service. It gives me peace of mind that nothing disappears and helps to keep me updated on what I've accumulated and what needs to be thrown out.

 

I would run down the street real quick to make sure it drove like it should, in case I messed anything up during the services or something is messed up. Having a vehicle return for leaks, strange smells and other out of norm things is bad juju.

What they did is fucked up and they should have left your truck as is or returned it exactly as dropped-off.

 

That really depends on where you are, in Texas you can have a concealed pistol in the car without a license.

 

If the tires were rotated guess what i'm giving your vehicle a shakedown test to make sure I don't have a come back because you had a tire that looked good, but had an issue in another position.

Seat being moved forward? Hmm do you expect the tech you might not be the same height to drive it when it's set up for a taller person. He or she should of had common courtesy to move it back.

Radio setting? It's way too easy to just touch a steering wheel button and have the radio station change.

Shit like this is one of the reasons I quit being a tech after seven years. It's basically a you can't win with some people.

 

Well my gm dealer was too stupid to even figure out what was wrong with my old silverado. Ended up sending the Toyota dealer to their shop to give me my trade value and traded for a Tacoma while it was still there.

Yup. I would turn the radio off to prevent accidentally changing it or the volume and getting chewed out. I had people complaining about the carpet protector, so i would take the paper mat and mirror tag out so they wouldn't complain about that. People suck.

 

When or if you get pulled over in a stranger's vehicle digging around for the registration and stumbling upon a gun in front of an officer is not a good look.
