2018 v6 4x4, average is usually around 25mpg. I have a rt commute of around 75 miles, mix of city and highway.

I live in the Cleveland area so its pretty flat, and fill up using only top tier 87 octane gas (i.e. Costco).

Recent 1200 mile trip - 23.8 average figured with calculator, pretty consistently over 20 unless towing small trailer. Seems to have gotten significantly better after 25000 miles on odometer, long break in for gasser??

Work commute is 12 miles round trip of hills and traffic. When i strictly do that for a tank its around 21-22 summer. Add any freeway and it goes up a bit.

What brand/load tire are you running? I get 15-17mpg (MT) around 75mph on my KO2 C-load, wondering if a larger tire would perhaps do better on hwy...?

Just what it is. The MT gearing is going to drink gas at 75 mph. Switching from 80mph to 65-70 average highway speed when I take the truck to my gf's place was an 1/8 of a tank difference. Just drive slower on the freeway if mpg is a concern.

I'm running close to a 34" MT with 3" lift manual, so my truck never climbs above 16mpg. I just accept it and bought a civic for most errand running.

I found out after driving this thing a while that the way you drive it has more to do with gas mileage than pretty much anything else you do to the truck. If you race from light to light, stay on the gas right up until it’s time to hit the breaks, do a lot of aggressive passing, racing uphill, or just general speeding, your mileage is going to suck. Drive it gently and you will get some pretty decent mileage in the low twenties high teens.

Was hoping 285s would perhaps compensate with less revolutions/less rpms than my current set of 265s-- especially long distances on highways that are 75mph and above speed limits.

Maybe if you get skinnies. But, a larger/wider tire is going to mean more weight and rolling resistance and the engine will increase in RPM's to maintain 75 mph. You're already at such a point in diminishing returns with the gearing that you likely won't increase mpg above 65.

I getting 18.5 average on the tank and thats taking it easy and not getting on the break a lot. If I drive more aggressively I’m getting 15 on the tank.

I’m running a 2” lift and 285/70/17’s with about 630lbs of added weight. I can live with that mpg in a pickup.

18 average, consistently in every Tacoma/Pickup I’ve ever owned.

All with 265/75s and 2” lift ish, give or take.

    27 average, consistently with every 4Runner I’ve owned (3rd Gen 4 Lyfe).

    Same tires and lift.

Pretty consistent with Fuelly averages for each vehicle. Pretty much dead on.

no thanks for me with pizza cutters, but good solution Gritz. I can live with 18.5 avg on 285s Merlin88, that's better than what I get with my current size (265s) and less weight (run about 350 lbs). What tire brand is that?

I’m running BFG AT KO2 T/A 6plys, I was getting 21 mpg with 265/70/17’s before the lift on the stock suspension

Was getting 25+mpg with stock 245's. With my new 235/85/16, dropped to 22+mpg. They are 10 ply.

The automatics will get better mileage because they have shorter gearing stock. BFG's were on the heavier side when I was comparing tires, but I wouldn't say enough to get much gains out of going with the same size in a different brand. KO2s are a good tire with a high mileage rating. It could potentially cost you more going with a lesser tire and having to replace them more often while nitpicking over marginally better mpg.

Are you running a taller profile tire than stock? Did you ever calibrate to compensate for the larger size? Your computer could be logging less distance while still seeing the same gas usage, so the dash tank average will show lower mpg than actual. I took a noticeable hit moving from stock to a 265/75 MT. Now on a 295/70 MT. I've never calibrated mine so the actual should be north of the 14-15 my dash always shows.
At the end of the day, I say put that dash read out on something else, ignore your mpg and drive it the way you want:burnrubber: If the gas expense is too high for that, buy a beater for the commute or trade the truck :notsure: These things drive like shit if you nurse it to maximize your mileage. Rev that SUV engine to 4K and watch the refinement of the MT start to show.

20mpg avg @ ~70° and above and 18mpg avg in the colder temps (30s presently).
    2" lift, 285/70/17 LR C speedo/odo corrected.
Drive is 30 miles to work in mixed stop and go to 80mph on the freeway.

I average about 22 mpg in mixed driving in Wisconsin. Stock DCLB-OR. With winter gas I think I'll be 20-21.
Fill-ups that included towing are not included in this...
