Leveling Lift, Void Warranty?

I purchased my 4x4 SR5 Tacoma from a dealership with a 2.75" (I believe) leveling lift on the front. Both of the front axles are going out, and should be covered under the 60,000 mile warranty. Unfortunately, the service technician informed me that because the leveling lift was on there, the warranty would not cover the damages.

Two things:
1) Is this correct to your experience with Toyota warranty services?
2) What are good parts to replace the front axles?

 

Googled the forums, found the Magnusson-Moss act. However, has anyone had to pull this?? What proof do I need from the Dealership, their word "yea.... it's the cause..." or do they step me through it to prove it to me, or, do I take it to another dealership?

CV Axle Boots are ripped, leaking, and making noise - both sides. They said "Because you have a lift, the suspension is modified, and nothing in the suspension will be covered.". I asked "Can you show that the lift is what caused the issue?" and the answer was repeated, that because I had a lift, it voided all suspension warranty.

This should be fun.

 

Not to take the dealer side, (since I work for one) If you have a 2.75 lift on the front that will tear those axles in a short time becuase of the angle the axles are sitting. You are basically butting more stress on those axle boots. I doubt they are going to warranty them for you. BUT... it sounds as if you are saying that you actually brought the car from this dealer already with the lift installed? If so I would use that to your advantage... That car should have not left the dealer with that kind of mod. I will use that as a serious argument against them.

 

Yes, I purchased it used from this dealership. It may only be a 1.75" lift - I believe the physical size of the metal lift needs to be about doubled to show the actual life size, correct? If I have a 1" thick lift, it's a 2" leveling lift. Someone correct my lack of knowledge on this one.

I even asked, since I purchased it from you with the lift on it, should the warranty be voided, and they told me the warranty for the suspension components would be, but not the entire 60kmi warranty itself.

 

so they sold you a brand new truck with a voided warrenty?

 

No, I purchased it used off of their lot. I believe it had 25k miles on it. 3000 miles later the engine blew up, they wouldn't do anything, so insurance stepped in and covered it.

They don't like doing warranty work, apparently.

 

They told me I would be fine if:
1) lift is less than 4"
2) No body lift
You bought it with a lift, they should honor that

 

If you brought the car there with a lift already installed...I WOULD RAISE HELL... call the General manager, sales manager, call Toyota. Dont let them take you for a fool. Beleive me, Ive worked for dealers since I turned 16 in highschool. Spent most of my life as a Honda tech, 10 years ago I became a top Service advisor for a top Honda dealer in Jersey, wining advisor of the year and even getting offered a job at Honda of North America, and spent the past few years as a BMW service advisor. I know dealers in and out. take my word for it go and BITCH BITCH BITCH. Go look on your paper work were they stated that the suspension warranty was voided at the time of sale......chances are you wont find that.

 

fubar718.. I installed a 3 inch pro comp lift are you saying that my cv's are going to go out soon? I thought pro comp site said that i will have nothing to worry bout wit a 3" lift

 

I'm pretty sure 3' is the max, I've seen a 3' and a 4' installed on a buddy's car. At four the axles weren't sitting at level angle, turning the steering wheel you could see the bellows on the boot stretching out to the max.
*this is only my opinion, I may be wrong. But I would consider a front diff drop kit to reduce the angle of the cv boot and axles if you are going that high.
But like I said this is only my opinion and I could be wrong.

 

I agree with this on 100% unless the engine was flooded or you did something to it....I would have made them pay

 

CV boots will wear out faster as a direct result of lifting the front end, since they run at a more extreme angle than stock.

That being said - you bought it from them - I'd go back to my original paperwork and find where it ref's the original warranty.

They're gonna sell the "cool looking" lifted truck off their lot, they need to man up and cover that bad boy.

Should they have identified the lift and informed me it voided the factory warranty at the time I purchased the used vehicle?

Boots are a consumable and lifts DO hasten their demise. Or is it more than that?

 

both axles have damaged boots and are grinding (IE, dirt in the bearings under the boots).

 

I think you have an uphill battle ahead of you. Boots do wear out and additional angle speeds that up.

I can get the parts for <200$/ea and do the work, myself. I'm not too concerned about warranty coverage, so long as I agree that the lift impacted the wear speed.

 

There are many NEW on Ebay for around $60 per side. That's both sides for around $120 Also most local Auto Zone or Advance Auto type places will be close to this price if you return your old ones to them.
