Must not have been somebody who has driven a manual transmission vehicle in the past. Neutral is just another gear. If it is in gear and the throttle us pegged, then let the Rev limiter do its job and take it out of gear. Also step on the brakes very hard. Don't soft pedal it or it will fade and not work.

Read the article. Driver was a CHP Officer "with years of experience high speed driving situations"? Weird...

I once had COMPLETE brake failure in an ole' late 1979 Ford Maverick at 50 mph in traffic. I was in high school and had the car full of friends. Threw the thing in "neutral", applied what we use to call the "emergency brake", and pointed the car into an open field. After we went across the curb head on, jumped the sidewalk and into the field I thew the car into park.

Didn't sound good and was not good for the transmission, but we didn't slam into a wall at 100mph and burst into flames.

That actually makes perfect sense, they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

My salesman made a point of telling me to never ever put more than one floor mat on the driver's side floor.

I remember reading an article in I believe popular mechanics after that happened, testing which cars could stop when the gas is floored. Every single car the brakes were able to stop it, even the Shelby gt500 they tested.

It happens every day where people swear they push the brake and their car drives through a storefront, I'd say that's likely what happened. Thought he was on the brake pedal, pushed harder but since it was the gas car accelerated. Dude starts panicking and it's game over.

Really. I didn’t read it, I just read what someone posted describing it. That’s wild, you would think he’d be better suited than most of us to handle that kind of high adrenaline decision. Lol I guess not.

That’s a good fact to hear. I assumed brakes would be enough to stop the gas pedal. It still baffles me because you’d think your first thought would be neutral right? Like take away the power. Idk haha.

I once had a coworker buy some of the high end all-weather mats, similar to weather-tecs. The next day his car had some kind of issue where it wouldn't start, so he had it towed to the dealer. They had it for three days, and this guy was going into a full Karen rage the longer they had it. Actually heard him scream into the phone "you need to put your manager on the line, because you're not important enough for me to yell at you." o_O

I really wish I was there to see how they finally gave him the diagnostic. Turns out his floor mats were so thick they were preventing the clutch from being pressed all the way in, hence, the car wouldn't start.

I've met some good LEOs and some not so good LEOs, but I respect the work they do. LEOs, to include the CHP, have a difficult job and IMHO are step above most other people.

As to the accident, I'm gonna guess that there was something else wrong with the car and that the officer was in the process of trying to stop the car but the situation was complicated by traffic, road conditions, and a malfunctioning vehicle.

I have the same sticker in my door jam from when I purchased it. I can't remember the exact amount the payload capacity was reduced by, roughly 35kg. My assumption was the change in rims and tires and the predator step bars that are part of the XP package.
