He mentioned smoking the clutch so he has a manual. Also, apears he does some towing as well.

    I'm exploring options. 16s have a 28.4" option. I could go with 16x8 +20 rota grid V edition and 225/70/16 Geolandars which are 29lbs.

Yeah I have a manual too, and load up my bed with a couple hundred pounds when I camp and it aint that bad. Mountains like I said are the only times where I have to get on it, but I'm still not even redlining lol. I have falken wildpeak AT3W extra load which weigh 35 lbs per tire and it does well. Your listed option sounds like it'll do great

I think the auto is probably geared worse. You guys are stating higher rpms crusing 65-70. I'm at 2,000-2100 at those speeds. 3.43 gears in mine.

Ya not all MT and not all AT have the same gearing. Some people say they have 3.31 MT gearing. Per my axle info on the door I'm at 3.58's with a manual so yeah I'm higher than u. That's shitty if they really put 3.43 in an AT, u sure?

That's what the code deciphered into and It'd explain the really low RPMs I'm seeing. A01A is the code

you have different gears than I do for sure! look at the door jam sticker. Deffinitely at least have the 3.58 A02x diff
    http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html

Coming to find out this 1,800$ Tacoma is going to get pricey to build into what I want for a good multi-use truck for a while.

I may have found a 2000 4cyl 5spd 4x4 in the junk yard that has 4:11 diff. sent an inquiry to the yard. cross finders that it's a LSD as well.

Buy it cheap and build it the way u want, right? can always pull junkyard diffs like you said from other trucks, if u find a 5 lug one with higher ratio u can dump it right into current housing. If ur looking at 6 lug rear end u will need to change the entire axle with it

Damn 2 k RPM's at 70 mph that's pretty much only useful coasting on flat freeway right? I mean all things in mind on stock gears and 31's that aint bad.

Imo I'd say that's pretty good because I believe if I went to 31's I'd never touch fifth gear :rofl: Maybe on the I10 here where speed limit is 75 and it's flat, buuuuutt yeah Imma regear myself when I go bigger. I drive like a raving ape and couldn't do it, everyone's different

Had mine out today on the highway and at 60mph the tach was 2000rpm in 5th with the MT and a 29 inch tire.

I checked mine today and I'm like at 2.1k at 60 mph in 5th. Decent for cruising flat road, but yeah if u wanna get up and go ur gonna dump a gear bc 2k will be painstakingly slow

Always. There is little acceleration in 5th. Almost any incline grade requires shifting in to 4th. With your automatic it's less of a pain, because, well, it's automatic. You will hear the the transmission shift a lot. This also depends on your local topography. Here in BC there is very little level road (our rural roads look more like motocross tracks:D) or highway so you're constantly shifting, even with the stock setup. If I lived in Saskatchewan/Manitoba or any of the prairie states, it would be less of an issue.

Hi. So I bought a 2008 Taco RWD 5 Lug, and im interested in lifting. I've hunted thru the forums and I'm just wanting to bring it up again to see if anyone has come out with things since. I know things change. Has anyone tried or heard about other options?

Found these last night, everything I've read says they are discontinued, does this look too good to be true?

Yeah they're out. It was discussed in another 5 lug thread. Total chaos even chimed in.

I hear the suspension is different between 5 lug and 6 lug. What makes a 6 not fit a 5?

The Upper control arms mount at a different point and are different as well as the spindles and the shocks. Front 6 lug stuff is just too tall for 5 lugs.
