Before I got my 2020, I was in a 2nd gen 4 cylinder. It’s like I got a race car now, lol. Power was never a concern of mine when buying a small truck. Didn’t need much to throw 2 motorcycles in the back and head to a track day where I can twist that throttle as much as I wanted.

Now I’m old and slow and just fine in the V6.

Speaking of anemic 4 cylinders, the first vehicle I bought for myself when I was 18 was a 1998 Dodge Dakota access cab, 5 speed manual with a 2.5l 4cylinder in it. That thing was pathetic, absolutely pathetic. We lived at the top of a rather steep, 1/2 mile long hill to get into our neighborhood at the time, and if I didn't get a running start the truck wouldn't make it all the way up. Or if I had to stop for some reason going up...I'd have to roll back down and try again. Whoever's idea it was to put that engine in that truck back then was high on something.

I traded it in after 2 months on my first Tacoma though, so that was the good that came of it. A 1999 3.4l Tacoma

That 5.7L Toyota V8 engine mates up nicely with small a fuel trailer, y’know.......for trips between cities and such.

The Tundra should come with this from the factory. Toyota really dropped the ball.

    Eehhh....

The tiny 2.7 Ecoboost I had in my F150 would chirp the tires on the shift to second. It towed like a much bigger motor and could still average 17mpg hauling a heavy bass boat on back roads. I regularly averaged 22mpg's in every day driving and tickled 30 a few times with the right conditions.

The exhaust sounded terrible, but the turbo noises were fun

Yes, but it's still a small boosted motor. The layout of the cylinders won't necessarily give it more power. It will tend to be smoother, though.

Eh, my wife has a CRV with the 1.5 turbo and it doesn’t feel overworked at all to me. I actually have to pull my foot off the accelerator at times as it keeps wanting to scoot along.

I’m just guessing being it’s a service truck, it probably has the 3.3 or 5.0 and older 6spd. I don’t know if you’ve read but the new 10spd has issues both in the f150 and mustang, mustang specifically. My 17’ lariat sport with the 2nd gen 3.5eco and 10spd has issues sometimes. I was coming off the highway after a run downtown and I rolled up on the stoplight after the offramp and it was stuck in 7th, fords 1:1 gear. Had to limp it to a parking lot, Shut it down, let it sit for 5 min and then restart. It was really smooth and nice when I first got it, now you can clearly feel gear changes, it vibrates heavily between 3-4-5

Last time I rented a jeep with a 4cyl and a 9sp trans, it was all I could do to get the hell out of it. Awful product in all sorts of ways. The whole time driving it I was trying to figure out how anyone would buy it after a test drive.

Fancy company you work for their
I did get the first year of the 2nd gen 3.5eco and the first year of the 10spd so maybe some of the kinks have been worked out, it’s just a bummer it doesn’t run better.

Our fleet gets renewed often. I’ve been driving Ford pickups at work now for 20 years, but they are never more than 3 or 4 years old, so I cannot comment on long-term reliability. They are always good while we’ve got them. My 2.7EB is the best full size pickup I’ve ever driven and is the make/model/engine I would buy if I wanted a full size truck for a personal vehicle. Powerful, extremely comfortable, and very efficient. In our fleet right now we’ve got three 4X4 2020 Lariat New Rangers (shit boxes), five 2019 4x4 F150s (2 x 3.5EBs, 2 x 2.7EB and 1xV8), two 2WD 2018 F250s, and 7 2018 high-ceiling Ford Transit Vans. It’s a Ford show, through and through.
