It's time for some new good drill bits. Like good drill bits, for a press. Steel. And wood. probably one set for each. For wood I'l likely go brad point, not a big deal.

But for steel, HSS + ? What's the current best technology at a semi-reasonable price, based on your experience

    Recommendations please.

Matco bits have a lifetime warranty, even when you break the 1/16” bit trying to jam it through your fingernail.

But.. no personal experience with them. I hear they are the shit, though.

The absolutely best drill bits I have ever used are the ones I got from BAMF @JLee when I bought my kick out sliders from him. Can’t think fo the brand name, but they went through my frame rails like a warm knife through butter...

    Nice, will look into.

If Jerry says they are the shit, then you know they are the shit with a cherry on top.

Fastenal is the closest to me.

    Thanks!

Have we been over space heating methods in this thread yet? If so can someone link the page? If not what are people using? (Space size and insulation details would help too)

I read quite a bit on the garage journal website this morning and came to the conclusion that a vented unit was right for me. Couple hours later was carrying this out of summit racing

    20191204_132429.jpg

Hopefully made the right choice, got it hung today, will finish install friday. Heating 900 square foot space with insulated garage doors and walls, haven't done ceilings yet but that is next. Everyone seems to love them from what I can tell.

I use cutting fluid when I can. Makes them last way longer. The tool truck I bought my Irwin’s from warranties them thankfully when they do wear out

Irwin, Champion, Cle-Line, Drill America, and KBC Tools branded ones have all worked great for me. Cutting fluid and learning to sharpen them (or having a sharpener for small ones) makes them last a long time

Keep an eye on this kit. It goes on sale often for $29 and I've purchased two of them at that price:
    https://www.sears.com/craftsman-pro...bit-set/p-00964085000P?sid=IDx20070921x00003c

Cobalt bits are made for heavy steel, but they also can be sharpened with a drill doctor multiple times. I like that the kit is pretty comprehensive and has the odd in-between size if you need something specific, but a little annoyed that it doesn't include a 1/2" bit (I usually just finish holes with a HF step bit if going up to that size). Good kit for the money even if you pay full price if you ask me.

I have general purpose Irwins I use on everything that are wearing, and I have a set of replacements that came with them that I've been chewing through gradually. Hence my query. And yes I use fluid on steel. Haven't gone to sharpening yet, but I would if I god a good set that was worth the effort.

Took me to a generic home page link :(.

I remember having a craftsman metal index box set from long ago, but only about half the sizes came with it!

So if you didn't see it in live, this was the Wiha deal for me, mostly upgrades that I've found myself wishing for over the past few eyars of projects.
