This happened to me yesterday. Bone dry pavement, hands nowhere near the VSC switch. Auto LSD light came on, it was orange so I figured something was wrong. after a while a couple more orange lights came on. Grappling in the dark I pushed the VSC switch and all the lights went off and haven't come back on since.

It is easy to accidentally bump a button and turn it on. I've done it...

No so easy when it's in the headliner console.

The difference between AUTO LSD and TRAC (the standard mode) is engine output regulation (aka throttle cut). With TRAC, the spinning tire is slowed with brake pressure so power transfers to the traction tire and the engine output is reduced. When AUTO LSD is used, there isn't the standard power cut to reduce spinning. You have full power to move from what was a one-tire-spinning stop.

If your left foot is flat on the floorboard on a second gen, it’s very easy for your knee to hit the switch. You wouldn’t even feel it since it’s so easy to push.

I accidentally touched the switch while reaching for my sunglasses.
Funny thing, I noticed no change in steering

You wouldn't. That's the beauty of electronic traction control. Only locking differentials mess with steering, or dry paved roads while in 4WD.

An accidental press simply turns on AUTO LSD/ TRAC OFF, which is just removing the engine power cut IF wheel spin occurs. Press it again to go back to normal TRAC or when you restart the truck, it goes back. AUTO LSD/ TRAC OFF uses only brake force to slow wheel spin (and transfer drive force to the wheel with traction), with full power... TRAC cuts power and adds brake force to keep you from spinning the tire without traction.
