If you have ever dealt with this, you know how much of a pain in the ass it is, especially after stepping in it multiple times. I live in a residential neighborhood, all single family homes and my house is on an alley, so it is very busy with car and pedestrian traffic. For the last 2 years or so, there has been a dog (I assume) shitting on my lawn almost in the exact same spot, maybe 3 times a month or so. I know most of the neighbors and they either don't have dogs, or are good about picking up the poop, so I don't think it's any of my close neighbors.

I set up a camera a few months ago, aimed exactly at the dump site and I was certain I would catch the shitter, yet after reviewing probably 40 hours worth of footage, I still could not find the dog in the act, despite there being poop about 3 different times. The camera I have is unable to be fast-forwarded though, and because there is constant motion, it picks up everything.

At this point, I don't even want the pooping to end, I need to catch whoever is responsible. Do you guys have any advice on how I can cat ch this mutt and owner? i was thinking of a camera that has a programmable motion distance, so that it would only catch what happens on the lawn rather than the street and sidewalk and alley. Maybe pay a kid to camp out in front for a few weeks until he sees the dog in the act?

Put cayenne pepper in your grass. Works to keep our neighbor's dogs from crapping on our yard since they never bother to pick it up.

Dogs hate cayenne pepper, messes with their nose. They'll smell it once and avoid your yard. Might have to reapply a few times for good measure

Thought about this, but I really want to find and confront the owner. One or two times is one thing, but this is 50+ and it is incredibly disrespectful, they know what they are doing.

Yeah I can respect that. Ours always happens in the early hours of the morning when we're still asleep.

This is what a few friends suggested, I am just worried that it will pick up everything just like my other camera.

My neighbors dog does this in my yard, when I mentioned it they just laughed like I was crazy for caring. I almost died slipping in shit this summer. So, I started picking it up and heaving it back into their yard. (Don’t worry I wear gloves lol)

I did catch one girl walking her dog in the middle of the day that let it crap in our yard, she kept walking and went out and asked if she was going to pick it up. She said "Oh...yeah! My grandma is catching up with me and she has the bags". She got on her phone and sent a text, 5 min later her grandmother shows up with a bag. Yeah, she was right behind you alright lol.

Oh, if I could find whose house this is, I would smear every last turd on their front door, seriously.

Find out which owner is letting their dog do it. Pick up the shit and stick it under the handle of their vehicle. It worked for me on a neighbor who kept letting their dog shit on my lawn years ago.

Once you find out who it is, start brown bagging it and leave it on their doorstep with a lit match

This is my plan, and much much more, finding them is the predicament.

I'm beyond this point now, need to find them. Also, there is no way they didn't see the camera I had set up before, it was impossible to miss.
