I have heard that the extra cab models feel sort of rickety with more noise than the 4-door as you don't have an actual door pillar there. Not having a door pillar does make logical sense that the rigidity won't be as great on the extra cab. Any thoughts on this pros/cons?

My AC doesn't feel at all "rickety," but definitely has some rattles in the door area. I've never had a double cab though so I can't compare

My AC doesn't rattle. I bought my AC to haul stuff and not more than 1 passenger.

I had a horrendous rattle from behind. Discovered my bed was loose and rattling on the frame (common issue).

Dynamatting the doors quietened things up a bit in the cab and now the doors don't sound tinny when being closed, not exactly the "European car thud" but close.

Not that any of this directly applies to the OP's question. o_O

    More than I can afford
I own both an AC and a DC

The double cab is for sure more rigid. The access cab has some shuddering where the front and suicide doors wiggle a bit, especially over uneven bumps. So much so that it has worn the paint in the door jamb area between the doors from the suicide doors moving. The AC isn't horrible but you do notice it.

That said, if I had the choice between an AC and a DC, I would get the AC. I don't have kids or often have passengers so I would rather have less in cab space and that extra foot of bed over the DCSB. DCLB is just too long for me.

I got the DC because it was almost the perfect truck but if I had found the exact same setup as my truck in an AC, I would have bought that.

I have a dc and my father in law has the ac mine a 10 his a 12 ive driven both and in my opinion the dc is definitely more solid and my front doors are less tinny when you close them. The longer bed is nice.. but have that whole back seat to store things out of the elements and from sticky fingers is a good piece of mind. I also did sound deadening and it made the cab really quite. I can barely hear my duratracs now.

Never noticed rattling on my AC MT. Drove a few DC AT and didn't notice the difference except missing a pedal.

I would focus more on your needs AC vs DC and LB vs SB and rattle vs non-rattle (jk on the last one). Also, some people notice rattling sounds like my brother in law who will go crazy over the smallest noise.

Always wanted to do sound deadening. How long did it take y'all? Sounds like a nice Saturday job

Sound deadening is not to bad . I did mine over a few days . Started with the back wall covered the whole thing but you don’t have to go crazy and do the whole thing. and part of the storage floor area. Then did the doors only doing like 8 inch strips .72439E89-0499-4F1D-A6A2-D4C31C079F84.jpg Then i put some under the driver and passenger carpets .

I have an access cab. It feels solid and I don't have any rattles related to the doors. I notice some rubbing noise from the door seals on rough roads, but its not that noticeable. I do clean and treat them with silicone about twice a year though which may help.

On a washboard road/surface, the doors can rattle. Other than that, they're pretty solid.

After recall D0L there's a rattle from the access door when you shut the front door. All trucks built after the recall (including 3rd gens) have the same rattle. However, it doesn't make noises while driving.

I did the back AC doors one day and the front doors another day then I found I had some left over so did the back wall on a third day.

Had AC for 2 years, have DC now for almost 3 years. Never noticed any noise from the AC but I never listened for any. I suppose it could be a thing but the rear doors always felt very secured if that's the right word.
