Hung the driver's door today! Had to swap out the wiring harness, so that was a task previously unattempted.

Has anyone had any experience with trouble out of this joint? It is the joint on the steering that passes through the firewall. I believe the FSM has it labeled as 'U-joint 2'. It looks like it may be causing some vibration issues, and feels like it has a slight catch in it. I disassembled it, regreased what part of it could be done and put it back together. Looked at ordering a new one until I saw the $300+ price tag.....

That's the steering ujoint/rag joint. Not sure how that would cause vibrations.

Correct, the one that goes through the firewall. Only thing that I can think may could cause a steering wheel shake would be the joint not being tight. It felt fine and smooth when I removed it and put it on my bench but with it back in the truck it feels like there’s a slight catch in it.

I believe a little of the slop in it was attributed to the shaft connecting the joint to the steering rack not being fully inserted. My truck has a 1.5” RB body lift, may have accidentally slide the shaft too far down when replacing the rack first of this year. With 380k miles on it, I didn’t know if anyone else has ran into having it wear out or needing to replace it.

What kind of slop? Maybe a dumb question, but could it be slop in the slip joint?

Do a search for the tack weld mod. You might want/need to do that to the slip joint on the shaft to cure your steering wheel shake.

    Part 3

...Soon enough, we found ourselves high in the Inyo Mountains. This was a spot that I'd fallen in love with as soon as I'd seen a similar photo from a fellow explorer, and I'm happy to say that it didn't disappoint. We arrived just as the sun was setting, a purple hue cast over and area we'd spent the last two days exploring.

+1 to that. Roughly 10 years ago, I sound deadened an old car with a marginal A/C. Afterward, I had no issue with the A.C cooling capacity.
