My taco is not slow at all, i will smoke 80% of drivers on the road, which is not bad at all.

My wife has a 2019 Rubicon Wrangler with the 2.0L and I've never thought it needed more power. Maybe it's setup differently than the Cherokee 2.0L is but my wife's will roast her 35s without much effort. I would take her 2.0L over any 3.6L (the other option in Jeeps) any day and I would say her 2.0L has more get up and go than my 3.5L ('20 Tacoma) or 4.0 ('16 Runner).

“get up and go” and “Toyota Trucks” are rarely used in the same sentence.

I’m reading this thread with interest because after 18 months of ownership in my 2018 TRDOR DCSB AT, I’m about to pull the trigger on a 2020 JLU Rubicon.

I’ve test driven both the new 4 cylinder 2.0L Turbo and the V6 Pentastar powertrains and to be honest they both felt great. The turbo whistle and lawn-mower sound of the 2.0T while expected was disappointing. However, it was very quick off the line, accelerated to speed a bit better than the V6 and had good low-end torque.

The V6 will be my likely choice however as it was also very responsive, has a much nicer sound/rumble, a longer track record/more likely to have long-term reliability and theoretically will be less costly to maintain once the warranty expires.

Of course, the V6 is out the window “if” (a very big IF folks) the wife loses her mind and lets me get the new 3.0 EcoDiesel (442 lb/ft torque for a $4K upgrade over the V6 AT sounds like a hell of a deal to me — reliability concerns and guinea pig status be damned).

Ha, yeah fair point. However, my point is the 2.0L in my wife’s Rubicon runs circles around my Toyota’s and it’s on 35s while both of mine are on 285/70R17s.

I can’t claim any real experience driving a Jeep, other than a couple weeks in a rental 2WD Compass in Hawaii. I’d be interest to try one someday. I’ve always heard they are a bit of a bear on the highway, so that has always steered me away, as I use my truck for road trips. I would like to check one out someday.

Be VERY cautious of the EcoDiesel... Do LOTS of research! Maybe wait a few model years to see what happens with the new gen engines. I just traded my 2015 Grand Chreokee Eco Diesel due to the overwhelming reports of them grenadeing. Join and follow along with the Eco Diesel owners group on facebook. Lots of guys love their Ram's and GC's, but in a group of 10k members there was at least 1 a week that had major issues. The latest one to pop was posted 5 hours ago.

I absolutely loved the diesel power, but driving a ticking time bomb that would take MONTHS to get parts to fix was not worth the stress!

I would certainly never buy another Jeep again. I owned a 2006 LJ Rubicon for 12 years. Sure the torque was fun, but it had too many issues within 60k. Some parts on it were like they were designed to fail. I had it till 110k miles but that's mainly because I was too cheap to buy another vehicle. I always try to dissuade people from buying Jeeps if you're looking for something that will last. If you like them, no worries and no offense meant, I just don't think they're reliable. Mine never left me out in the middle of nowhere of pavement but it got close at least once not to mention all the other hassles it gave me.

I'll take my "slow ass" 3rd get taco any day.

Try driving a 600hp sbc powered camaro then drive a Tacoma . The Tacoma accelerates so F'n slow it's pitiful and embarrassing

Yeah, this is my biggest concern with having a Jeep, they're like one of the worse rate vehicles for reliability. I used to be a 100% Jeep guy. Then I bought my first Toyota in 2003 and haven't looked back. We plan on my wife driving her Jeep for a year or two and then it will sit and be an extra vehicle until my son starts driving it.

My Tacoma is not what I would consider fast, but it has more than enough power for daily driving. It's a bit slow right off the line, but once it hits about 4000 RPM it takes off. I made a turn onto the highway this afternoon and took it up to the speed limit (65) and thought to myself "Hmm, this DOES accelerate nicely!" I'm very pleased with the power that's on tap.

Sure, but what normal everyday car accelerates like a 600 hp Camaro? That would be like judging every handgun against a .454 Casull Super Redhawk. Yeah it's a mean handgun. But for every hand cannon running nuclear handloads, there's a sea of Glock 17s and GP100s running cheap Walmart ammo.

Yep. Fuck pointless highway miles on my truck. Turn and burn i40 miles go on rental vehicles. If I came out to play in the desert or off road I’d have brought my truck, but I’m just doing a turn and burn.

Yes. Boring miles go on rental shit. My 2 trucks and car stay home , along with my motorcycles. I would bring my Taco out west to play in the Mojave , or up in Utah though. I might go trash this rental down some roads in the desert tomorrow for a few laughs though.
