For everyone who's replaced their brakes, make sure your caliper bolts are properly tightend down...maybe put some locktite on them even. I lost my top bolt on the drivers side on my way home from work today. Luckily, I had a buddy a mile away. He ran to a parts store and got me a replacement. I swear we got them torqued down when we installed them, but maybe we didn't get the full torque on them.

Did this today, had the parts sitting for months and finally had a day off to do it. I followed someone's advice to use the 4Runner's brake tube, that was a waste of $20; the hole on the 13WH calipeper is damn near same spot and the Tacoma tubes work great- the 4Runner tubes are way off.
Thanks for the write up OP

No need to change those lines. The Tacoma’s ones work just fine

TBH I had a sticky caliper piston that I was fighting all winter, so my brakes were not in great shape. I had to replace the calipers, rotors and pads so the upgrade was not much more $$ than stock. It brakes awesome.. bigger brakes = smoother shorter stops

    I rarely see more than 45mph here so I haven't seen a night/day difference. I can't quantify it, someone should do a 60-to-0 test before/after the swap.

    CHEVERLY my service dog! Lol
Not sure if mine sat on the lot tooo long but my fronts warped at 22k and the dealership replaced them for free. I had to have my rears done at 42k and I"ve never towed a thing. I was doing a lot of stop and go traffic for awhile..I think they were jacked from day 1.

I had the EXACT same problems. This swap fixed the issue, they are now smooth and powerful. I know some people like to think that these brakes are perfect from the factory every time and any issues are due to driving habits. They are wrong.

When replacing the dust covers for the 4Runner ones which are larger, is there any sort of gasket or seal that goes between the hubs and spindle?

It's been a couple beers since I did mine but I believe they're just metal to metal. Do pay attention to the correct orientation, since I know someone that screwed it up...

There is no gasket, as it’s hub, dust shield, knuckle. But there is a large o ring that goes on the hub to seal it against the knuckle

No gaskets or sealants. Just metal to metal

    Isn’t the o ring for 4x4 only?

Got it. Forgot there was a small o ring on the new hubs.
Now I have a question, has anyone done this upgrade with Maxtrac spindles installed, because I’m pretty sure these 4 runner dust shields aren’t sitting flat on the spindle, which sucks because now I’ll have to make cuts to brand new set of $100+ dust shields.
