So I took my 2017 taco to the dealer on nov 14th because the rear diff light wouldnt stop flashing.

The truck had never been put into 4hi or 4 lo and i have never messed with the rear diff. the truck only has 21000 miles on it.

Dealer looked at it, said it was bad sensor, kept my truck overnight and ordered a new sensor. Turns out the sensor they ordered was also bad or too long?!? they ended up locking the rear diff and had to order a new sensor and also had to drop the entire rear diff i guess. the fixed it all under warranty and gave the truck back to me after about 3-4 days. they put me in a rental so i wasnt crazy bothered.

60 miles later the check engine light and trac off light comes on. i bring it back. they tell me the fuel rail and fuel rail sensor is bad, put me in a rental again and they replace it all under warranty.

60-70 miles later, check engine light and trac off light are on again...I took the car in this monday, they stated that they would need the master tech to look at it on tues, tues i dont get a call so i figured i be patient. wednesday (today) rolls around and I give them a call, they said they need to send the info up to toyota because they cant figure out whats wrong with it....

at this point... im kinda getting irritated!!

my 3 year warranty also ends in march, does the replaced parts get warranty extended after the initial warranty expires? ... and does anyone have a clue to wth is wrong with my truck... i uploaded the service notes. trying to get an opinion before i begin to complain!!!

    thanks guys.Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.35.10 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.35.39 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.41.30 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.42.05 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.35.10 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.35.39 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.41.30 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2019-12-04 at 5.42.05 PM.jpg

I have no idea in this particular case, but some techs are capable of being able to diagnose issues, and some techs hide behind being able to play swap-a-part. Could be a case of the latter.

Usually parts and labor have a 12 month 12k mile warranty on them. But its unlikely for the same part to fail again.

After March you are on your own,NO warranty.Check your gas cap too see if its tight/seal is good,as thats a common issue for check engine/trac light. You will need too delete the code in the computer after the fix.

Why has your truck never been in 4HI ???

Driving 10 miles per month in 4HI is a standard maintenance item for 4x4 trucks and 4Runners.

Mines been at the dealer since 11/18 and they still havent fixed my brakes. The first week they literally did nothing except check pedal height, freeplay, and test drove it twice. Once i contacted toyota and created a case, they magically found the problem, but now its taking them 2 weeks to get parts to fix and replace the MC. Oh best part is they approved covering the extended use of their rental car, however they still expect me to pay for the first week of rental that they sat on my truck and did absolutely nothing.

This is the last Toyota im buying.

I know you mentioned that it had never been in 4WD, but notice that they keep mentioning that they found a differential sensor damaged.

Might want to take pictures of the differential housing to show that it has not been beat on just to cover yourself for if/when they come back and say that you broke it and the repair is on you.

Not saying that they will do this, but I sure wouldn't put it past a dealer to try something like that.

I'd call toyota corporate and start a log of the issues. If they continue after march, the paper trail will probably help.

Id ask for an extended warranty as well due to the issues. The worst they can say is no.

Also, why are they putting in the wrong gear oil

Definitely demand extended warranty, and good catch on the gear oil. It should be 75w85 GL5 gear oil. I wouldnt ever go to that dealership again. Much like im never going back to the one my truck is being held at. Lazy goodfornothing joke of a place, they literally couldnt even put a hubcap on right.

The dealership I purchased my truck at was pretty terrible after the sale, so I tried one closer to my house, those idiots couldn't even take my lug nuts off without screwing them up, then didn't even tell me. I just do all the maintenance myself and track it in the owners app. I do still use their parts counter though, the guy there is really good and drops the price for me.

^^^^^There is a possible part of the problem.

Let this be a warning to others!!!!! With 4WD systems, and diff locks, it’s “use it or loose it”. They suffer from lack of operation. Be sure the cycle your functions periodically. Engage 4WD and mess with the diff whenever you get a chance. Your truck will thank you.

Don't our trucks have 5yr/50k powertrain warranty? 3yr/36k is the bumper/bumper.
