Just Givin ya the business Mark.
Do you folks have to go through a vehicle inspection each year like we do here? And...., is your exhaust a custom job or something that is manufactured commercially for our Tacomas? Wondering if it would pass our rigorous inspections here. Would like to go dual on mine. Also wondering if there is a significant reduction in back pressure and an increase in performance?

Found one for $369. Just sayin. I’m thinking about pulling the trigger. I had a magnaflo cat back on my ‘16. But those are $$$. ( it was given to me in a trade for a car )

Nice... love the billiard ball shifter knob. Great size, and never too cold in the winter and never too hot in the summer. Almost did a cue ball myself, but white didn't fit in with my interior as well as it did yours.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
My dual exhaust was made by MBRP for Tacomas (off-the-shelf, in other words). It's a cat-back system, so emissions aren't affected.

Illinois is pretty lax about inspections. There is no safety inspection, only emissions testing, and even that is limited to certain (high population) counties. They basically do the minimum to conform to Federal environmental laws (and keep those Federal highway dollars coming in). There's a 4-year grace period for new vehicles, then gas-powered vehicles must be tested every two years. They just plug into the OBD system to see if all the controls are working. You can't have any codes showing. So far as I know, they don't do tailpipe emissions or gas cap testing anymore on pre-1996 vehicles (I could be wrong). There are a whole lot of exemptions, too. There is no testing of diesels under a certain weight, for example (which means school buses are exempt, which kinda' ticks me off, there's a vast armada of school buses on the road when I head in to work).

<edit> Woops, performance... One of the first things I had done was replace the exhaust system. The timing was convenient. I hadn't touched anything else, so there was no change in performance, it just made more noise. Shortly after that, I did the CAI mod with a silicon hose from the airbox to the throttle body. THAT made a difference. Previously, I'd take off from a light and in short order it would hit a wall, like it was hitting a rev limiter. Weird, because I'd never heard of anyone else complaining of this problem. I got the impression it was starving for air. After the CAI, BIG difference. Smooth acceleration (no more wall) and it really does scoot. Wish I had something other than the butt-dyno to evaluate these mods.

Guy who detailed my truck used it to make a YouTube video. Except for the few seconds of it being backed into the garage, I recommend keeping the sound off. (All I'll say is that the guy was nice enough and reasonably sane in person).

I've had a few guys come up to me and say how much they love the sound of my truck when I start it up. It has kind of a growl.

It scares animals and small children. :)

Not really. The pittie next door comes running to the porch door to watch me wave and back out of the driveway when she hears the sound (I have no idea why).

I've mentioned this before, but just so you're aware... If the "drone" is too much for you (meh, I've gotten used to it), MBRP does make what they call a "quiet-tone" muffler for this system. The sound, I'm told, is somewhere between stock and the standard MBRP muffler. It's not in their catalog, you have to email or call them. Nice folk to deal with.

I've got one, just never put it on. I'm keeping it around just in case I change my mind.

    Good to know

Their prices are better than I expected. Can they do the quiet tone on any variation? I like the dump pipe right after the muffler
