When i put my truck in neutral and let the clutch out it sounds like something is grinding really loud in the tranny, when i put the clutch back in it goes away. it sounds almost like a fan or a belt turning but its coming straight from the tranny.
Didnt crawl under there yet cause of the brutal heat outside haha, but maybe tonight i will.
Might be normal i just havnt noticed it before.

Does it whine/whir while you're driving and go away as soon step on the clutch? If so, it could be your input shaft bearing...

His initial description isn't exactly conclusive... So I wouldn't rule anything out yet...

I know EXACTLY what noise you are describing. My taco does it too...

Before I bought the Taco, I had the dealer check the noise out and the service manager told me that there is NOTHING wrong with the transmission. That all taco's do that and its because the aluminum transmission housing resonates the inside sounds more. He also said that it might be because the fluid needs to be replaced soon. I bought the Taco with 23k miles.

The noise is not there when I start the truck cold. When the truck is cold, the tranny fluid is thicker and possibly resonates the sound better. When the truck gets to operating temperature the tranny fluid is thin possibly doesn't resonate the sound as much as when the truck is cold.

This is NOT a TOB!!! TOB would squak or make a noise only when you press & depress the clutch pedal. This noise is there when the truck is idling & the clutch pedal is depressed.

I will be changing the transmission fluid around the 28k-30k mark and I will be using Redline Heavy Shockproof fluid, LINK --> http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=44&pcid=8 . I have put this fluid into my buddies 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV, when I exchanged his transmission, clutch & flywheel. The Redline fluid improved shifting of the crappy Nissan gearbox by 200% compared to stock.

ill see if i can get a vid of the noise but so far ^^ that sound the closest i think. as for a whining i hear one around 2000 rpm in 1st and second gear, im assuming its from the air intake. It almost sounds like a supercharger.

uploaded a vid of the noise, kinda hard to hear, every time i reved it up to 1000-1500 it would make like a cringing sound but only with the clutch out in neutral (foot off the clutch)

We have a 2009 4cyl 5speed 2wd tacoma at work. It has 36k on it and does not make that noise. It does make a faint whirring noise in neutral, but no rattles like in your video. And this truck has been driven hard.
