Why a cot? Any reason to not just put a sleeping pad down?

I’m thinking for storage purposes underneath. I have an idea to find one with 3 x brace style legs and shortening the one over the wheel well so I can fit two, and shove drybags and gear underneath for family trips.

Something like this, cut one center leg appropriately to sit over the wheel well.

Interesting idea, will be cool to see! I think I'd personally just go normal sleep system (foam or inflatable pad + bag and bivvy if needed) which would all store smaller and be more out of the way. This is why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors! Follow up with how it turns out though, maybe you're on to something.

My original idea was to get a hard topper than build a wooden platform with slideout drawers. But I decided I wanted something a bit more modular. There is a soft topper for sale Local and I think this would make a cool modular option!

Do some searches around here for "Sleeping Platform", you'll find some inspiration. Most guys (including me) build one to go over the wheel wells, but I have seen where people found a cot, like you are looking for.

Is that a FourWheel Camper? FWC makes some great slide-ins. I'm looking to get one for my 2020 long bed Offroad... eventually, after I pay off the truck that is.

Yes it is FWC Swift model for short beds.
You’ll have a good chance finding used being long bed, it’s tough for a short beds.

I'll probably wind up ordering a new one because I want it to be well equipped and match my truck's paint color as closely as possible (I'm OCD like that lol). I am a little worried about the weight though. The Fleet model weighs almost 1300 pounds when configured the way I want it. That already puts me over payload without any gear.

They're heavy. Shell model helps. Get good leaf pack. Regear if auto. Enjoy :)
