General question to anyone who will answer:
What did you do for a vehicle while they had it?
The local stealer wants me to pay for a rental which is unacceptable.

This was My Experience : (tho it's all posted in here many pages back)
    1) They ordered a new cluster with an approximate arrival date.
    2) Simultaneously had me 'estimate ' a odometer reading for when the replacement would be done .
    3) Was established that the replacement would be +/- 100 miles of TRUE. (Turned out the difference to be 34).
    All parties satisfied.
Never had to leave the truck .
    Never needed a rental .
    Good luck

Thanks for the reply, update to the situation/conversation points:

Originally they were unwilling to give me a rental at their expense as this is a TSB and not a "Warranty Repair."
With that; I repeatedly mentioned my "Platinum" extended warranty and the fact that this is a "New to me CPO vehicle" both of which are supposed to be bumper to bumper warranties... They said that they would call me...

    So after about a week:
The dealer, by way of the Toyota Rep, has agreed to perform the service and will pay for a rental vehicle, up to $55/day from Enterprise.
I told them that I wanted this in writing and after a second consult with the Rep, they stated that they would handle all of the arrangements with Enterprise.
I had told them that I'm a First Responder and needed a truck, "I bought a truck for work and will not accept a Corolla," hence the whole "going through Enterprise deal."

They are unwilling to go the route of guesstimating the mileage. They have ZERO idea how long it will take to get a cluster so they were not having it...
Time frame did not sound promising at all.
Not sure of how true that this is but they mentioned that there are 7 possible configurations of the cluster and would need to remove it to confirm exactly which one to order. That doesn't sound right to me but IDGAF as long as they fix it right and don't damage something else while they have the truck.

They would "Like" to be able to repeat the condition to confirm. I said good luck and it's completely random. But as was stated in the OP that it generally happens after a short drive and then sits for about 90 minutes. I can give them dates of the 3 incidents and +- mileage.
The service scheduler that I'm dealing with has a 2016 TRD OR DCSB and has had this same issue with his, so I have that going for me.

I did bring in the TSB number, thank you OP and TW for that!!! The Lead Mechanic, while he'd never encountered the issue himself, knew immediately what the issue probably was going to be, then confirmed the TSB number with an all knowing grin.

Appointment to drop the truck off is next Thursday. Will see how it goes.

Many thanks to all who've posted their trials and tribulations with this issue. TW is an awesome resource!

I track my mileage with both my SCII and fuelly, went to record km TripA after filling up last night and it was 72.2km!? checked TripB and it was 72.2km..
Found this thread this morning.. talking to Toyota Canada at lunch.

    Wish me luck.

This trail has been blazed. Most people were complaining back when it was still an unacknowledged/undiagnosed issue. You'll be fine, and your instrument panel will be shiny and not be all scuffed up. For a few weeks.

I had the combo meter replaced, with no hassles, a few years ago, posted earlier in this thread. No problems since then.

But, I had a new battery installed yesterday, and the shop plugged a battery into the OBD port to keep the vehicle powered up and not lose the settings while they replaced the main battery. It seemed to work OK ... all my radio stations, customized turn signal flashes and door lock settings etc were good. But, my trip meters A and B, and tank and cumulative mpg reset. Oh, and my AC came on full blast. Not a big deal, maybe not related, but there does seem to be something in the circuit that has those features separate from other functions.

So I had my replaced almost 3 years ago and no problems since until yesterday. I had a reset. I did notice it seemed like the battery was weaker than normal when starting and I had been taking a lot of short trips to and from work (5 miles). And the night before I continued to talk on the BT until to truck timed out and shut off, which I have done before. Hoping it's a fluke cause I'm out of 3 yr war now. Either way it really is disappointing that info isnt stored in the ecu or whatever the radio presets, clock, etc are stored.

I just want to share my experience that this exact thing just happened to me last week after new tires were installed and a new TPMS sensor was replaced by the dealer. I’m not sure if my particular issue is fixed but, I disconnected the battery and it hasn’t happened again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I hope this helps anyone out there.

I had the reset happen for the first time a year ago, asked the question in a new thread back then and was shown this thread. So a year went by and it was fine. Then a couple weeks ago it started to reset again, one day it did it a couple of times. Went to Toyota talked to service, told them about the TSB and they checked it out. Parts ordered and work done last Monday Feb 22. Well, started the truck this morning and had another reset. Went straight to Toyota, they are going to investigate further.

Update: Had another reset this morning, one thing I noticed was the battery was weak and the truck started sluggish. Could a bad/weak battery cause the reset?

Question for the electrical guys here, Could a bad/weak battery cause the combo meter reset? I had another reset this morning and noticed the battery seemed weak/bad because the truck started sluggish.

My cluster reset and was replaced 3 years ago, and I still have the same battery. Not saying the battery couldn't affect it, but my battery is almost 6 years old and I've had no issues with resets since the cluster was replaced.

Thanks. Just had to ask the question. The dealer is going to have it Monday to look at it, I stopped by this morning and said I had a second reset since it was replaced. Asked if it could be cause by a bad/weak battery, service guy made a note about it so we will see what happens.

Update: The culprit for the latest resets was most likely a bad cell in the battery. I was told that low voltage was the likely the issue for the reset. The dealer replaced the battery at no charge, I will happily except that. I haven't picked up the truck yet, hopefully that will end the resets.

I had these issues often in the last few months and my cluster light would be dimmed as well, thought I was losing my mind... until one day my truck didn't start so I did a load test once I charged the battery and it showed the battery needed to be replaced. Replaced the battery about 3 weeks ago and the trip hasn't reset and the cluster light hasn't dimmed itself and it's been just over 3 weeks. Not sure what happened to Toyota batteries but my last 2 Tacomas Oem batteries lasted close to 10 years.

As of today, I have not had 1 reset. So it seems a bad battery was the cause of the issue.
Also should clarify with the trip meter reset, the tank average fuel economy would also reset.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
I doubt it. I have had this problem now for the past 3 years I have owned a used 2016 TRD Off Road. I just ignored it and each trip in the bush (weekly) just wrote down my odometer setting on paper, and kept updating that as needed on each trip. Yes, a pain in the ass. I decided to mention it to the dealer after my 3 year warranty had expired, but I had an aftermarket 6 year warranty. Dealer said nothing they can do, aftermarket warranty no good either for this. Never had a low battery, the one I have in there now is 1.5 years old and the trip meter resets itself 1 - 2 times per day. So I never try to use it, just going to keep living with it.

Well, as of right now it hasn't reset once since they put in a new battery after the combo meter was replaced. But time will tell.

What other problems have you had? Because I’ve got a ton of them right now but my truck has 130000 miles on it

I had my combo meter replaced under the TSB when my 2016 was about a year old. Over 80000 miles now and it seems to have happened again a few times in the last year. My battery is 2-1/2 years old and my truck does sit quite a bit unused. I wonder if there’s a connection.
